Doctor Adele Burkhart held captive on Cobra Island, 1982 CE.

Doctor Adele Burkhart was America's top nuclear physicist and one of the brains behind the Doomsday Project by 1982 CE. She was unaware of the true nature of the project and was deliberately misled, not aware that the project was meant to create a retaliatory weapons system capable of annihilating all life on Earth. When she discovered this, she opposed the project and her loyalties began to be questioned by the government. As a result, she was called to testify before Congress. Burkhart took a train from New York City to Washington, D.C. while being guarded by soldiers. She began a press conference while en route but this was interrupted when Cobra forces under the command of the Baroness attacked the train with the intention of seizing Burkhart. Burkhart was kidnapped and brought to Cobra Island in the Caribbean, restrained, and interrogated by Cobra Commander. G.I. Joe launched an attack on Cobra Island and Burkhart was rescued by the unit but not before she took a bullet from Cobra Commander to protect Scarlett and Snake Eyes. She was evacuated from Cobra Island on a commandeered Cobra helicopter, giving her thanks to G.I. Joe before she left. [1]
