Optimus Prime is a Transformer from the Primax cluster. Click here for similar characters.

One of many depictions of Optimus Prime.

The bot who would become Optimus Prime usually had a lowly beginning as a data clerk or as a cargo hauler. He often had a pre-Prime name, like Orion Pax, Optronix, or simply Optimus. As he rose through the ranks of the Autobot forces, he was chosen to become the heroic leader of the Autobots by the Matrix of Leadership, the authority of Primus himself. Under the rule of Optimus Prime, the Autobots fought hard against the ruthless Decepticons under the command of Optimus Prime's nemesis, the nefarious Megatron. Optimus Prime kept up a strong resistance against Megatron until his ultimate death. However, as Optimus Prime dies often, he just as often returns from the dead. Typically, Optimus Prime is succeeded by the young Hot Rod who took up the mantle of Rodimus Prime. In other universes, Optimus Prime ascends reality into the dimensionally displaced region of J'nwan and took the name of the Authority.

Early History

Optronix working at the Great Cybertronian Archives.

During Cybertron's Golden Age of peace, Optronix was among the elite few who served as the guardians of Cybertron's accumulated knowledge in the Great Cybertronian Archives. As a low-level operator and librarian, Optronix spent years and years in search for the objective truth. But as time went on, he found more and more evidence that there was no objective truth. As he continued to study and learned more of the possibility that there were parallel realities, he lost his sanity and decided to make a name for himself. Optronix planned to make his way up the chain of command by turning his research skills into a method of manipulation. He rose to prominence and was well-known for being one of the most obsessive researchers by backstabbing his way to the top but was later exposed and as a consequence he was expelled from service. However, Optronix continued to have plans of becoming the ruler of Cybertron. Optronix decided that military force was his path to become the leader, he taught a philosophy of destruction and conquest to recruit followers. He proposed that Cybertronians could only advance and evolve through conflict as peace was decaying their society. Optronix and his followers declared themselves to be autonomous from the rest of society and they dubbed themselves the Autobots of the Autobot Imperium with Optronix serving as Supreme Commander. Among their ranks included Optronix's brother, Ultra Magnus.[1]

Optimus Prime removes Ultra Magnus's face

In preparation for war, Optronix and his Autobots enhanced their bodies for battle. Optronix saved the most powerful enhancements for himself and he underwent the modification process first. To symbolize his evolution, Optronix took the name of Optimus Prime. Optimus Prime would continue to enhance himself, refashioning bodies of his followers into weapons as well.[2] Without warning, Optimus Prime led the Autobots in an attack on Cybertron, ending the era of peace. Each attack was preceded by an offer to the target to join Prime's forces. Those who refused were destroyed. Among the victims of the strategy included the brilliant scientist Starscream who Prime tried to recruit. However, when Starscream turned Prime down, Optimus ordered the destruction of his hometown of Crystal City.[3]

As the war went on, Optimus Prime lost weapons to the resistance led by Megatron who eventually developed transformation technology, dubbing themselves the Decepticons. Optimus Prime replicated the transformation technology and armed his forces with the new ability. With these enhancements, the Autobots once more began to beat back the Decepticons. During the Battle of Praxus-Delta, Optimus Prime hired the mercenary team known as the Wreckers commanded by Rodimus. The Wreckers were destroyed in the battle but thanks to the sole survivor Rodimus, the Autobots were able to retreat. This impressed Optimus Prime and he recruited Rodimus into the Autobots.[4]

During the war, Optimus Prime became close with his trusted sniper-aide Cliffjumper who saved his life during the Battle of Torus Heights. there was one incident where Optimus and Cliffjumper killed a Decepticon through a creative torture involving melting a captured Decepticon in a smelting pit.

At some point, Prime's brother Ultra Magnus launched a coup against Optimus Prime. Magnus failed as Prime crushed him and even ripped Magnus's face off and sent him to be imprisoned on Paradron.[5] Optimus Prime would create an elite unit called the Seekers that was led by Drench and included an Autobot named Sideswipe, the most feared of the unit. However, Optimus Prime did not appreciate Drench's philosophy of a balance between sternness and compassion and had Drench killed when the opportunity arose. Optimus Prime sensed that Sideswipe did not approve of his decision and he had Sideswipe walk into a staged ambush by freelancers Prime had hired in the Rad Zone where Sideswipe was left to die. However, unbeknownst to Prime, Cliffjumper accidentally died in the incident. Prime would believe that Cliffjumper had died in the Battle of Darkmount.[6] Following the death of Drench and Sideswipe, Optimus had Bumblebee upgraded into Goldbug and had him take Drench's place. Rodimus would replace Sideswipe.[7]

Modern Day

Optimus Prime at the Battle of the Ark

As the war continued, Optimus Prime began to look to the stars to expand the Autobot Imperium, setting sights on the planet Earth. He had his forces modify their bodies to the machinery of Earth and prepared a starship called the Ark to go to Earth. Later, Optimus Prime received reports of a strange energy build-up underground and sent Rodimus to investigate. Rodimus returned with Cliffjumper of Primax 207.0 Epsilon who they mistook for being the Cliffjumper Prime had once knew who actually had died. Optimus took Cliffjumper through a tour through the base. Cliffjumper objected to Prime's cruelties which resulted in Optimus having Cliffjumper dropped off in the Rad Zone. Optimus Prime continued efforts to ready the Ark for launch from Cybertron. However, the Decepticons under Megatron later attacked the Ark launch site and Prime led the Autobot resistance. The universal intruder Cliffjumper destroyed the Ark and the Decepticons retreated.[8]

Seeking fuel for the Ark (which was undergoing repairs), the Autobots would eventually redsicover the Arch-Ayr fuel dump at Khon and Optimus Prime led a force of Autobots to take the fuel dump, engaging Megatron's Decepticons. As the Decepticons gained the upper-hand with the aid of the Mayhem Suppression Squad, Wheeljack arrived with his newest inventions: the Dinobots. However, the Dinobots fought among themselves and the Autobots retreated back to Iacon.

In Iacon, Optimus Prime criticized his forces for being failures. As the Dinobots were still at large, Optimus ordered the Autobots to prepare to capture the Dinobots and had Wheeljack prepared for the trip on the Ark. Later, a group of wounded Autobots would arrive and Optimus sent Rodimus to be repaired by Ratchet. He would later visit Rodimus in Ratchet's repair bay where Rodimus was upset that Ratchet had replaced his hand with a buzzsaw. Blurr later reported that eight Dinobots were acquired by the Autobots though Grimlock had been lost in the depths of Cybertron. Grimlock arrived and pointed out a design flaw in the Ark. Due to Grimlock's worth, Prime allowed Grimlock to re-join the Autobots as his own autonomous soldier rather than Prime's unquestioning drone as of previous.[9]

The Ark was repaired and Prime had the launch site armed with weapons to defend it. He observed as Blaster trained the Scrounge forces that had been produced for the Earth expedition. Jazz later reported that Richochet had captured Megatron to keep the Decepticons from following when the Ark eventually launched. Angry that anybody else would consider killing Megatron and went off to find Megatron at the Temple of Knowledge. As he went on, he called Rodimus and told him not to launch the Ark if he wasn't there in the time window for the Ark to launch. Optimus found Richochet who had captured Megatron. As Prime was about to kill Megatron, Decepticon Predacon forces arrived and let Megatron escape his chains and allowed Megatron to fight Prime to keep him from reaching the Ark. As the battle went on, Prime received a message that the Ark had launched without him on Rodimus's direction and Prime ordered a retreat.

Nova Prime is born, 2015 CE

Optimus watched the Ark flee in the sky, followed by the Decepticon ship the Nemesis which launched without Megatron. Returning to the Ark launch site, Prime found his loyal Autobots beaten down and Nightbeat reported that Rodimus had fled on the Ark with the support of Goldbug. Angry at Blurr's failure to keep Rodimus behind, Prime had Blurr killed. Prime would continue to search for a pathway to get to Earth.[10] Optimus spread his forces across Cybertron and began to construct an ultimate weapon named Omega Doom.[11] Shortly afterwards, while watching Around Cybertron, Optimus Prime learned that Megatron had been assassinated, which enraged him.[12] Optimus met with Ricochet and discussed the death of Megatron. Remote Patrol Six arrived and launched an attack on Optimus Prime in the name of Rodimus. The assassination failed and Alpha Trion arrived with his forces to do the job themselves. However, Omega Doom activated and defeated Alpha Trion and Prime sent Omega Doom out to engage the Decepticons.[13]

As Megatron was reborn into Galvatron, the Great War continued. As Optimus Prime realized that something was coming that would effect the Multiverse, Prime ordered Drift to his quarters to help him create a new body based on Ultra Magnus's body.[14] During a major offensive in Sector 17 of the Mirtonian Quadrant, Optimus Prime was severely damaged and abandoned by his own forces. He dragged himself to a CR Chamber in a nearby outpost and fashioned a new body based on what he and Drift had designed. This enhanced Prime's powers and he returned to Polyhex and destroyed several of the Autobots who abandoned him and re-established himself as leader. Prime updated his weaponry by creating a sword out of mysterious G-Metal.[15]

Optimus Prime later received contact from Ultra Magnus who had broken free from Paradron. Magnus killed Ironhide in front of Prime and took a Stellar Spanner and left through the portal to Primax 207.0 Epsilon. Prime contacted the Decepticon Treadshot to infiltrate that universe to hunt down Ultra Magnus.[16]

By 2015 CE, Optimus Prime had arrived on the original Earth of his universe (As the Earth of Primax 207.0 Epsilon had entered Primax -408.24 Epsilon). He led the Autobots in an ambush of the Decepticons once[17] and later launched a full-scale assault on Decepticon City with his unified Autobot forces.[18] He was shot down by Galvatron which forced an Autobot retreat.[19] Eventually, Prime was expelled into space by Rodimus in an attempted coup and later came upon the Unicron of this universe. Unicron reformatted Optimus Prime into Nova Prime and turned his soldiers into his personal force called the Knights of Unicron. As Nova Prime, Nova had his sanity returned. Unicron sent Nova Prime to stop Rodimus and his Autobots. Nova went to Cybertron and sent Rodimus deep into the core of Cybertron.[20] Prime captured the Autobots when he received a message from Unicron to prepare for battle as Cybertron began to transform into Primus. Nova Prime ran into Rodimus briefly while Primus fought Gaea. Nova Prime ordered his forces to fight Primus. Taking out Primus's eye, Nova Prime ordered a retreat from Primus. Following the defeat of Primus, Nova Prime went to New Cybertron, the new form of Gaea, and made his new life there.[21]

Primax 084.0 Zeta (Big Looker Storybooks)

Optimus Prime after pushing back the Decepticons from the Autobot ship.

During the Autobot-Decepticon War, Optimus Prime led a group of Autobots on a ship to clear a path through an asteroid belt that threatened Cybertron. However, the Decepticons attacked and chased the Autobots. Optimus Prime crashed the ship into Earth, sending the combatants into stasis lock.

The volcano erupted four million years later and activated the ship's computer called the Ark to reactivate the Transformers. After the Decepticons left, Bumblebee brought the humans Sparkplug and Spike Witwicky to meet Prime and the Autobots and they planned on using the volcanic energy to fuel the ship.

Prime later received reports of the Decepticons attacking the city of Kimball. The next day, Prime led the Autobts in pushing the Decepticons away from an attack on the Autobot ship.[22]

Cliffjumper and Mirage informed Prime of the upcoming car rally which Optimus Prime entered the Autobots in. However, the Decepticons attacked the race and Optimus fought them off.[23]

Another battle took place in Oregon which was another victory for Optimus Prime. He then received reports from Shooting Star about Decepticon activity taking oil elsewhere. The Autobots foiled the Decepticon attempts at stealing human fuel.[24]

Optimus would discuss the Decepticons with Bumblebee and Hound, and Beachcomber would be deployed to where Decepticon activity was spotted. Later, Beachcomber returned and reported that Grapple had attacked him and serving the Decepticons. Prime deployed himself and his forces to stop the Decepticon plot. Prime stormed the Decepticon base and freed Grapple shortly before defeating the Decepticons.[25]

Primax 085.0 Eta (The Battle for Planet Earth)

Optimus Prime was the leader of the Autobots, a race of Cybertronians who were at war with the Decepticon race. The war took the races to space and ultimately resulted in the Cybertronians crashing into Earth's crust in their ship called the Ark in 4 MYA. In 1985 CE, a volcanic eruption awoke the Transformers. With the war continuing on Earth, Prime made the focus of their mission to be protecting humanity and to rebuilding the Ark.

Prime led a scouting mission to find more energy for the Ark with their new human allies, John and Tim Gordon. The search took them into South America, where the Autobots saw a volcano for the first time, Mount Sheelah. Prime decided to take a closer look at the volcano despite knowing that it was known for being active. At the top of the volcano, Prime decided to find a way to harness the volcano's energy. Decepticon forces under Megatron attacked the Autobots. Due to the conditions of the volcano, Optimus Prime pulled back his forces under the advice of the Gordons. The eruption of the volcano would later assail the Decepticons and give the Autobots a victory.[26]

While reconstruction continued on the Ark, the Autobots would often watch television to learn more about the cultures on Earth. While watching the television, the Autobots learned of a town where every able-bodied human was kidnapped by the Decepticons. To find out what the Decepticon's motives were, Optimus Prime sent Bumblebee to infiltrate the Decepticon Fortress. Bumblebee later returned and reported that the Decepticons were using the humans for slave labor. Using the global crystal that Bumblebee had stolen, Optimus managed to negotiate the release of the humans.[27]

Primax 085.0 Zeta (Marvel Books)

In 4 MYA, Optimus Prime led the Autobots when war broke out between the Autobots and the Decepticons. At some point, an asteroid cluster threatened Cybertron and Optimus Prime led a crew of Autobots on the Ark to eliminate the threat. Megatron launched an attack on the ship and the Decepticons gained the upper hand. Preferring to die rather than to be taken prisoner, Optimus Prime received the Autobots' permission to crash the Ark into a volcano on the nearby planet Earth in what would become Oregon.

In 1985 CE, the volcano errupted and the Ark's computer was reactivated and it in turn reactivated the Autobots and Decepticons, rebuilding them with Earth-based Alternate modes. The Autobots set up camp outside the Ark and Prime set the mission goal to be to protect Earth from the Decepticons. Hearing that the Autobots were their protectors, the humans Buster Witwicky and Sparkplug Witwicky befriended the Autobots.

Jazz later reported that he found Decepticon activity within the Global Building Corpoation at the Freedom Sports Arena. In order to stop the Decepticons, Prime ordered an invasion of the Decepticon fortress. However, upon arriving, Megatron let the Autobots come in. They met with Megatron, and Prowl figured out that Megatron was developing traps around Earth. Megatron then expelled the Autobots from the fortress. Prime once more led an attack on the fortress. Mirage managed to free the people caught in the Decepticon traps around the world by pressing a button and Optimus Prime ordered a retreat.[28]

General Optimus Prime led the Autobot forces in the Third Cybertronian War. In a confrontation with Megatron in Sector 49G, Prime required thicker armor and massive firepower to counter Megatron.

General Optimus Prime fought ATB Megatron in the Battle of Sherman Dam. Though the battle began to look bad for the Autobots, Grimlock, Sludge, and Swoop arrived to finally drive off the Decepticons.[32]

General Optimus Prime engaged the Decepticons in the outer reaches of the Decepticon Star Empire at Mirtonia based on plans presented by Jazz and Sgt. Hound. The Decepticons destroyed much of the planet but Optimus and his Firestormer Squadron resisted them. During the battle, an experimental Energon refinery exploded and vaporized Megatron, Starscream, and Soundwave and ripped a hole in reality that sent General Optimus Prime and Sgt. Hound tumbling from their reality.

The two awoke in Axiom Nexus of Nexus 208.0 Epsilon and General Optimus Prime was recruited into the Convoy, a group of heroic leaders to safeguard the Multiverse. General Optimus Prime used his unusual appearance for a Prime to carry out missions in the Low-Tech areas of the city.[33] This allowed Security Administration Officer Cheetor to recruit Optimus into his task force with Sgt. Hound under his command.[34]

Primax 302.06 (Dreamwave G1)

Optronix becoming Optimus Prime, Chamber of the Ancients, 8.2 MYA

In 8.2 MYA, Optronix was cold, apathetic and atheist archivist who worked in the Vaults of the High Council Pavilions in Iacon. One day while working, Bluestreak visited him and told him the news about Megatron killing Sentinel Prime. Optronix brushed Bluestreak off and Bluestreak criticized him for not caring about the Great War that had broken out between the Autobots and the Decepticons.

Optronix was later called to the Chamber of the Ancients where the Council of the Ancients informed him that the Matrix had chosen him to become the next Prime to succeed Sentinel. Optronix went to the Oracle Tank in the Stellar Galleries to seek direction and came to the conclusion that the best course of action was to abandon Cybertron. Optronix returned to the Chamber of the Ancients where he bonded with the Matrix of Leadership and became Optimus Prime. The Decepticons launched an attack on the chamber as Megatron had ordered Optimus Prime to be killed and Optimus beat them back, gaining the respect of many of the Autobots. Optimus then ordered the preparation for a planet-wide evacuation.[35] Prime then received a Golden Disk from the council that contained all the knowledge of the previous Primes.[36]

Later, Prime would receive reports on the evacuation from Prowl in the Tower of Pion. Prowl and Optimus began to argue over the evacuation when the Forum of Enlightenment falls victim to an explosion. Optimus Prime ordered the searching of the area for survivors, finding a hole that goes deep into the planet. Prime determined that it was Megatron's doing to get his attention. Prime went down the hole but came under attack by Decepticon forces.[37]

While fleeing, Optimus came upon a yellow pool where he came into contact with Primus who took the form of Optimus to speak to him. However, the talk was interrupted as Prime fought off Ravage. Prime then defeated the rest of the Decepticon search party and challenged Megatron via Decepticon communications. Eventually, Optimus Prime and Megatron fought. However, thanks to Starscream, Prime and Megatron fell into a chasm[38] and continued their fight below. However, the Matrix reacted to their battle and sent them to the future of 1984 CE on Earth.[39] They observed the Battle of Sherman Dam. They continued to fight until the Matrix sent them through time once more, now at some unknown point in the future on an unknown planet. They were brought to the core of Cybertron of 8.2 MYA before the Matrix teleported Prime himself back up to the surface by Grimlock.[40] Grimlock gave Prime his sword and Prime went back into the core to kill Megatron. Prime fought and aprehended Megatron but Primus directed Prime to the surface where the Autobots were faltering. Prime reinforced the Autobots and ordered the ultimate destruction of Megatron's mechaforming device. Iacon was completely destroyed in the process. However, Optimus Prime ordered the Autobots to stay on Cybertron to fight as he refused to let the war spread farther than Cybertron.

After the battle, Optimus Prime threw the Golden Disk given to him by the council into space as he wished to choose his own path.[41]

In 7.4 MYA, Optimus Prime engaged Megatron in Kaon, where Megatron was constructing a Space Bridge that was only configured for one. Prime tackled Megatron through the portal which resulted in an explosion that saw Prime and Megatron lost from Cybertron.[42] Prime and Megatron would end up marooned on the planet Quintessa. In 6 MYA, Optimus was discovered by the Turbomasters who were sent from Cybertron in search of their member Flash.[43] Prime was briefed on the current status of Cybertron which was under the occupation of Megatron and his Aerospace Extermination Squadron. Returning to Cybertron, Prime orchestrated the battle against the AES as well as the invading Quintessons. Prime personally joined the fight in the core of Cybertron where Primus fully healed Prime. The AES were eventually shut down. The Age of Internment ended with Prime's victory as the Quintessons were pushed out and the war resumed as usual.[44]

Optimus Prime was the Supreme Commander of the Autobots and led them against the Decepticons under the command of Galvatron. One day, Optimus Prime's unit received strange energy signals from a creature called an Angel on the planet Earth and Prime led his troops to the planet to investigate, arriving at Tokyo-3. Just then, the ghost of Starscream possessed the Angel and became Angelscream.[45] The local Nerv forces deployed Evangelion Unit-01 and Optimus Prime scanned it with the Matrix of Leadership to learn more about it. The side effect of the scan was that Optimus grew to the size of the Eva and gained its powers and color scheme, changing the Matrix's crystal from blue to red.[46] Optimus fought Angelscream and though Angelscream initially gained the upper hand,[47] Optimus used his Angel-powered energy axe to cut through Angelscream's AT Field and killed the Angel even though Starscream managed to flee the body. Optimus returned to his original size and now had the ability to transform into his Eva mode. His trailer was modified by Nerv engineers to hold Eva-01. Optimus decided to have his Autobot forces defend Earth from both Angels and Decepticons.[48]

Optimus Prime debating on a summary execution of Megatron during the Autobot-Decepticon War.

Optimus Prime was forged during the Autobot-Decepticon War. As the war continued, he began to think that the war would never end. He rose through the ranks of the Autobot forces and eventually became the leader of that faction with the authority of the Matrix of Leadership. He coined his catchphrase, “transform and roll out.” There were many times where he fought with Megatron, leader of the Decepticons, one-on-one. As the war continued, the weapons and technology the Cybertronians utilized in the war horrified Optimus. This technical development grew into the Combiners.

The war continued for a millennia and spread across the galaxy. However, the final battle occurred on Cybertron. Optimus Prime led the Autobot forces against Megatron's Decepticons and the battle ultimately came down to a one-on-one fight between Optimus Prime and Megatron. Optimus Prime soundly defeated Megatron and was given a chance to give Megatron a summary execution. However, Optimus Prime decided to spare his life. Both Optimus Prime and Megatron went into exile and the Autobot-Decepticon War came to an end. Rodimus Prime succeeded Optimus as the leader of the Autobots in the post-war Council.

Optimus Prime would wander the surface of Cybertron, observing the damage that the war had brought to Cybertron. During this journey, he came across the Combiner Menasor in the wilderness.[50][51]

On a later date, Optimus Prime received a video feed from the Autobot Combiner Computron. Curious, Optimus Prime went to the capital of Cybertron, Metroplex.[52] Arriving near the capital, Optimus found Windblade of Caminus preparing to shoot with the target presumably being Council-member Starscream. Optimus Prime stopped her shot[53] and dueled Windblade while urging her to return to Caminus. The duel winded down and Windblade begged for Optimus's help while informing Optimus that the Council possessed the powerful Enigma of Combination. Concerned by this revelation, Optimus decided to help Windblade in her endeavor. Optimus came to the conclusion that only Megatron could help them stop the Council.[54]

Optimus Prime and Windblade traveled to an unknown planet where they found Megatron fighting the Constructicons in an arena. Optimus confronted his former enemy and this meeting inevitably escalated into a fight. However, with Windblade's aid, Optimus managed to talk down Megatron and convinced him to help by informing him that Starscream was on the Council, playing on his antagonistic feelings for Starscream. The team left the unknown planet for Cybertron, but not before Windblade and Megatron poked fun at Optimus's “transform and roll out” catchphrase.[55] The trio landed on Cybertron and began an operation to infiltrate the Council headquarters while arguing over whether or not the Council should be assassinated. Megatron raised this point in favor of assassinating them but Optimus Prime decreed that no one should die. The trio arrived at the entrance of the Council headquarters and the three Council members Rodimus Prime, Starscream, and the Mistress of Flame emerged while deploying the headquarter's cannons. Optimus Prime took the opportunity to appeal to the Council to destroy the Enigma of Combination. However, Megatron launched an attack on the Council which started a firefight and forced the Council to fall back.[56] The trio destroyed the Council's cannons and the three penetrated deeper into the headquarters to confront the Council when Devastator came from the ground and attacked the Council. Optimus thought that Megatron had betrayed them for a moment, but Megatron informed Optimus that this was not the case and that Devastator was working on his own agenda. Devastator turned on Megatron, but Optimus intervened by opening fire on the Combiner. The Combiner Victorion arrived at the battlefield as she had her own reasons for taking the Enigma of Combination. At this point, Starscream merged with the Engima of Combination and turned Devastator, Victorion, and the wounded bodies of Computron and Menasor into limbs and subsequently combined with them before collapsing into a cloud of energy. [57] Optimus Prime, Megatron, and Windblade engaged Starscream. Megatron suggested a retreat but Optimus refused to abandon Cybertron. Windblade was shot down by Starscream[58] but she survived and used her abilities to activate Metroplex, the true form of the capital of Cybertron. Using Metroplex, Windblade began to crush Starscream. Optimus quickly used Megatron in his hand-held weapon alternate mode to fire a shot that destroyed Starscream. Optimus moved in and saved the falling Windblade and Megatron delivered to her the Engima of Combination. Once more, Megatron left Cybertron while stating that he did not want Optimus to make contact with him ever again. Optimus and Windblade met with the Council and the Combiners who all survived the ordeal and Windblade gave the Enigma of Combination to the Combiners who then left Cybertron. Windblade then expressed her wariness because the Titans had returned.[59]

Optimus Prime during the Earth Campaign, 1985 CE.

Early Days (c.4 MYA - 1985 CE)

Optimus Prime became the leader of the Autobots when he received the Autobot Matrix of Leadership.[60] In 4 MYA, Optimus Prime was in charge of the general Autobot resistance against the Decepticons in the Third Cybertronian War. The war raged on for centuries and took a bad turn against the Autobots as they lost more land and lost more resources. Eventually, the Autobots were cornered at Iacon and the Decepticons laid siege on the capital. As the Autobots were desperately low on fuel, Optimus sent out units to find any other source of energy left on Cybertron. This effort only yielded a few energy conductors. With support from his fellow Autobots, Optimus Prime decided to abandon Cybertron in search for another source of energy. Optimus Prime captained the ship called the Ark with his group of Autobots and launched from Iacon. During the voyage of the Ark, Decepticon Emperor Megatron captained the Nemesis and attacked the Ark. During the battle, the Decepticons boarded the Ark. The ship crashed on the planet Earth and lodged itself into a volcano. This caused all the combatants to be put into Stasis Lock.

Three million years ago, a Predacon from the future named Megatron in honor of the original Megatron arrived at the Ark to kill Optimus Prime to prevent Decepticon defeat in the Third Cybertronian War. Megatron shot the unconscious Prime in the head, critically wounding Prime and causing a time storm.[61] Optimus Primal, leader of the time-displaced Maximals and enemy of Megatron, led his forces into the Ark and began to make repairs to Prime after Megatron had been defeated. To assure that Optimus Prime's Spark would survive, Optimus Primal took the Spark of Prime into his own body which reformatted Primal into a Transmetal II body. Optimus Primal later returned the Spark of Optimus Prime back into his body. Optimus Prime briefly awoke and looked at Optimus Primal before being deactivated once again.[62]

A Brave New World (The Earth Campaign, 1985 CE)

Optimus Prime during the Battle of Sherman Dam, 1984 CE

In 1985 CE, the volcano housing the Ark erupted and activated the Decepticons through happenstance. The Decepticons departed from the Ark and Air Commander Starscream opened fire on the Ark in a gesture of Decepticon victory. This caused the body of Optimus Prime to fall into the range of Teletraan I's reactivation beam which allowed Optimus Prime to be reborn with a new Earth Alternate Mode. Optimus Prime reactivated the remaining Autobot forces under his command. Prime briefed the Autobots on their current situation and created the mission objective of preventing the Decepticons from ravaging Earth. Prime deployed a scouting unit of Hound and Cliffjumper to locate the Decepticons' forward operations base. The two later returned after having engaged the Decepticons. While being repaired, Hound reported to Prime that the Decepticons were planning on collecting Earth's energy into Energon cubes to fuel a space cruiser so that the Decepticons could return to Cybertron. Optimus refused to let the Decepticons take Earth's resources and had Jazz create a battle group for Prime to lead in a deployment to a Decepticon attack on an American oil rig. The Decepticons were victorious in the battle and fled with Energon cubes while destroying the rig.[63] Optimus Prime quickly ordered an evacuation of the human laborers from the rig and freed the trapped workers Spike Witwicky and Sparkplug Witwicky. The Autobots returned to shore and Optimus introduced himself to the Witwickys. The Witwickys offered to help the Autobots as they knew more of the customs of Earth than the Autobots did and Optimus Prime agreed to the sentiment.

Later, Optimus Prime was outside of the Ark when the Ark's alarm went off due to a Decepticon infiltration. Optimus witnessed the Decepticons Soundwave and Ravage flee from the Ark. Though Soundwave escaped, Optimus Prime led the operation that resulted in Ravage being captured by the Autobots.

Jazz later reported to Optimus Prime that the Decepticons were preparing to launch an attack on the Sherman Dam. Optimus Prime ordered the Autobots into a deployment to stop the Decepticons. The Autobots engaged Megatron's Decepticons in battle at the dam and Optimus was knocked off the dam by Megatron. The Autobots regrouped at the Sherman Dam following the Decepticon withdrawl with Energon cubes and Optimus reiterated that he refused to abandon Earth. The Autobots returned to the Ark.

Sparkplug Witwicky later reported that the Decepticons were preparing to launch an attack on the Ruby Crystal Mines of Burma. Optimus Prime deployed as the commander of the unit that went to Burma. The operation was a failure as Optimus Prime was wounded while deploying Roller and the Decepticons escaped with Energon cubes.[64] Roller managed to return and Optimus Prime also recovered and the Autobots returned to the Ark.

Optimus Prime coordinating an artillery strike during the Battle of the Victory, 1984 CE.

Hound later reported to Optimus with the proposal that the Autobots use a hologram to trick the Decepticons to coming to a battlefield with terrain advantageous to the Autobots. Optimus Prime agreed and decided to have Hound create a copy of the nearby Cape Carlson base. Optimus permitted the escape of Ravage to leak the false information to the Decepticons.

The Decepticons attacked the fake base but the Autobots soon realized that the Decepticon forces were fake as well. Megatron arrived and revealed that the Decepticons were already attacking the real Cape Carlson base.

After returning to the Ark, Optimus Prime gave a speech in preparation for the final battle against the Decepticons at the launch site of their new space cruiser, the Victory. Optimus then led the troops to the site and engaged the Decepticons over the ship. However, the Victory managed to launch. However, thanks to sabatoge by Prime's soldier Mirage, the Victory crashed into the Pacific Ocean. Optimus congratulated Mirage for the victory and announced the mission objective of returning to Cybertron.

With the support of the United Nations, Optimus Prime directed the refueling and repairing efforts of the Ark to return to Cybertron.[65] Despite the apparent destruction of the Decepticons with the fall of the Victory, Optimus Prime remained skeptical to the fall of the enemies.

Before the launch, Optimus Prime noticed that there were power outages across Central City. Prime investigated the situation and found that the problem was at the Solar Power Plant which was under attack by Megatron's still-living and active Decepticons. Optimus put together a reaction force and deployed to the attack. During the battle, the Decepticons managed to escape with their Energon cubes.

Optimus Prime suspected that the Energon cubes were to be used to be sent to Cybertron and he sent Bumblebee and Spike to scout for how the Decepticons were going to transport the cubes. After the mission, Bumblebee reported that the Decepticons were going to use the device called a Space Bridge to transport the cubes. Bumblebee led Optimus Prime and a unit to the location of the Bridge but instead brought them to a Decepticon ambush in a cave. The Decepticons managed to seal the Autobots within the cave and Ratchet discovered that Bumblebee was under Decepticon control. After Bumblebee was repaired, Bumblebee agreed to take the unit to the real location of the Space Bridge and the Autobots escaped the cave, engaging the Decepticons at the Space Bridge. Megatron was lost in the Space Bridge when it was activated and Starscream took command of the Decepticons and ordered a retreat. Despite the Autobot victory at the Space Bridge and the apparent destruction of Megatron, Optimus Prime still could not believe that his foe was dead again.[66]

Optimus Prime led his troops on a patrol for the Decepticons which resulted in them engaging Starscream's Decepticons attacking a dam. This resulted in a Decepticon retreat and Prime sent Bluestreak and Prowl to pursue the Decepticons and deployed the remainder of his forces to Doctor Alcazar's Laboratory where research was being done on the Antimatter Formula. Optimus Prime's forces arrived to see that the lab was under the occupation by the Decepticons who were led by a returned Megatron. Optimus Prime engaged the Decepticons in Operation Antimatter which resulted in a large-scale explosion at the lab. The Autobots returned to the Ark for repairs. While there, the Autobots learned that the Decepticons were powered by Antimatter Energon cubes and were en route to the Ark to destroy the Autobots. Optimus Prime led the Autobots in the battle against the Decepticons which resulted in the Decepticons being defeated with the help of Chip Chase.[67]

Later, Optimus Prime and Spike did reconnaissance to locate where the Decepticon Space Bridge was moved to. However, they found no sign of the Space Bridge. Optimus received a distress signal from Chip Chase at the Munition Plant, a facility that created anti-Decepticon weaponry for the United States military. The plant was under attack by a group of Decepticons under the command of Starscream and Optimus ordered the Autobots to join him in the defense of the plant. Optimus engaged the Decpeticons alone and was heavily damaged and was evacuated to the Ark by the Autobots. While being repaired, the Decepticon Laserbeak that had infiltrated the Ark shot the wounded Prime which caused a chain reaction that caused him to explode. Optimus managed to survive though he needed a new Cosmitron. Prime remained under operation as other Autobots deployed in search of a new Cosmitron. Just as the Decepticons launched an attack on the Ark, Optimus Prime was fully repaired and Prime managed to defeat the Decepticons, causing them to retreat.[68]

By July of 1984 CE, the Decepticons had begun to mine the Earth's core which caused massive global cooling. Optimus found the cause of the anomaly at the Arctic Circle by the Decepticons. Optimus Prime deployed his forces and engaged the Decepticons. The new Decepticon Skyfire ultimately defected to the Autobots during the operation but he was buried in the ice. The Decepticons were forced into a retreat and the Autobots returned to the Ark without the frozen Skyfire.[69]

When the Ark underwent tremors, Optimus Prime led the investigation of the source of the tremors and found a cavern behind the Ark. In the cave, dionsaur bones were discovered and Optimus ordered Spike to brief some Autobots on dinosaurs.

Later, Hound presented a holographic projection of the dinosaurs to Optimus and Optimus approved of a proposal by Ratchet and Wheeljack to develop robot dinosaurs. Optimus observed the demonstration of the newly created Dinobots Grimlock, Slag, and Sludge. However, this demonstration went poorly and the Dinobots damaged Teletraan I. Optimus ordered the Dinobots to be trapped in the cave behind the Ark.

Hound later reported that the Decepticons were attacking the Great Falls. Optimus led the Autobots against the Decepticons but was captured by the enemy. However, the Dinobots and Autobot reinforcements arrived and defeated the Decepticons. Because of the Dinobots' assistance, Optimus decided that the Dinobots would remain among them.[70]

After receiving reports that Decepticon forces stole steel beams, Optimus eventually discovered that there was Decepticon activity in the Andes Mountains in Peru near the Incan temples. Optimus ordered the Autobots to attack the Decepticons and also ordered the liberation of Skyfire from the Arctic Circle. Optimus Prime eventually joined the battle himself. They defeated the Decepticons' efforts to use the Earth's core to power a new weapon and celebrated victory in Peru before returning to the Ark.[71]

Optimus Prime received a report from Chip Chase that a meteor of intense power was to arrive on Earth. Optimus decided to have the Dinobots secure the meteor. When the meteor arrived, Optimus shot a fragment off and left to the Ark to have it analyzed while the Dinobots kept watch over the main part of the meteor. Optimus ordered for the cration of two more Dinobots.

The next day, Optimus observed the creation of Swoop and Snarl when he was alerted by Wheeljack that the meteor fragment was going to explode. The explosion was contained and Prime feared for the main part of the meteor and went to check on it. There, the Dinobots had been influenced by Megatron into betraying Prime and they defeated him and brought him to Megatron who had the meteor. Swoop and Snarl arrived and the Decepticons were pushed out as the meteor blew up. Grimlock and his Dinobots returned to the command of Optimus Prime with his pardon.[72]

Optimus Prime leading the amphibious assault on the Sea Funnel, 1985 CE.

Optimus Prime led the Autobots to the defense of the palace of the Majaraja of India but the Decepticons quickly retreated. Optimus then received reports that the Ark had fallen under attack and that Sparkplug Witwicky had been abducted by the unit. The battle in India was a set up.

Optimus led a unit of Autobots in an attack on the Decepticon undersea base around the wreckage of the Victory and quickly retreated following the rescue of Sparkplug.

While being repaired at the Ark, the mind-controlled Sparkplug disabled the Ark's defenses for the Decepticons to attack again. However, the Decepticons were pushed back and Sparkplug joined them in retreat. After the Ark underwent repairs, Optimus was alerted to the fact that the Decepticons were building a massive Space Bridge.

Optimus led an attack on the Decepticons but this resulted in Megatron using the tactical advantage of human slaves to throw off the Autobots. Megatron then made Optimus Prime activate the last energy pylon to transport Cybertron into Earth's orbit as if Prime did not, Cybertron would be destroyed. This created catastrophic damage[73] and Optimus Prime eventually ordered a retreat. The retreat was difficult due to the storms and Optimus even had to detach a group of Autobots to find Bumblebee who go lost.

Returning to the Ark, Optimus watched the destruction of Earth and deployed the Dinobots to help curtail the destruction. The volcano that housed the Ark began to erupt and Optimus ordered an evacuation of the Ark. Ironhide managed to stop the explosion but the Autobots remained posted in the caverns of the volcano for safety.

Optimus received intelligence that Sparkplug was on Cybertron and ultimately allowed an Autobot raid to happen on their nearby home planet.[74]

Optimus led the Autobots in an attack at Megatron's Sea Funnel which was designed to gather hydroelectric energy from the tidal waves on Earth. Upon arriving, they found that the facility had been abandoned. Optimus freed the human slaves before ordering a further push to find Megatron's Energon transport shuttle. While en route, Optimus received a report from Cybertron that Sparkplug remained in Decepticon hands but the Autobots may have found the device used to control the humans.

Optimus Prime's forces arrived in a jungle where they engaged the Decepticons. The Decepticons retreated and the Autobots theorized that destroying Megatron's shuttle would cause a chain reaction to throw Cybertron out of Earth orbit. Destroying the shuttle, Cybertron left the Earth orbit but remained in a much closer proximity to Earth than before the operation allowing for reinforcements to move between each planet. The raid on Cybertron also would come back as a success, allowing for the freeing of humanity.[75] Shortly after the crisis, Optimus devoted his forces to rebuilding the damaged planet Earth.

Optimus received reports that Megatron was still alive and Prime decided to stop him from regrouping his forces. Optimus engaged Megatron and the Decepticons which resulted in a fight at the laboratory of Doctor Arkeville, a human that was collaborating with Starscream. While there, the factions found that there was an Exponential Generator that could destroy Earth. The two managed to fire the Exponential Generator into space and Prime returned to the Ark.[76]

Optimus Prime defeated by Megatron in a duel, 1985 CE

Optimus Prime received reports of Autobot forces in Bali to investigate reports of giant insects. Optimus Prime joined the investigation that turned into a battle with the Decepticons and the newly discovered Insecticons. The Decepticons retreated and, after a short break for repairs, the Autobots engaged the Decepticons and Insecticons again at an oil refinery, forcing a Decepticon defeat.[77]

While at the Ark, Megatron arrived and challenged Optimus Prime to a duel to end the war with the looser abandoning Earth. Optimus accepted the duel.

At the duel, Megatron defeated Optimus Prime and Prime agreed to leave. While returning to the Ark, Optimus found it being used as the site for a battle between the Dinobots and the new Constructicons. Optimus was repaired and Chip Chase reported that there was evidence that Megatron had cheated by using the Power Chip Rectifiers of his soldiers. With this report, Optimus Prime ordered a counter attack on the Decepticons which resulted in their defeat.[78]

Optimus was present for the demonstration of Sparkplug Witwicky's Autobot X, an experiment made from spare Autobot parts. However, this demonstration failed and Autobot X was put into storage. Optimus then received reports of a Decepticon attack on the New Air Force Rocket Base. Optimus engaged the Decepticons which forced the Decepticons to retreat though Spike was damaged.

At the Ark, Spike's mind was put inside Autobot X while his human body was operated on. Optimus then deployed to the New Air Force Rocket Base to assist in repairing the facility.

Prime's unit repaired the base and witnessed the launch of rockets into space. Prime then received reports that Megatron was corrupting Spike. Prime deployed to the Ark where the Autobots fell under attack by Spike. However, Spike turned against his Decepticon puppeteers and forced a Decepticon retreat. Spike's mind was later transferred back into his healthy human body.[79]

Prime was present at the first demonstration of the Wheeljack Instant Immobilizer which went poorly. The second demonstration was held outside of the Ark but the Decepticons ambushed them and took the Immobilizer. Ironhide later resigned from active duty. Optimus then planned on taking back the Immobilizer and deployed and engaged the Decepticons on a beach. The Immobilizer was destroyed and the Decepticons retreated. Optimus later accepted Ironhide's request to return to active duty.[80]

Optimus Prime received reports from the American scientists in charge of the Experimental Energy Research Laboratory and their work on electro-cells that the Decepticons had stole electro-cells from their lab. Optimus Prime deployed Autobots to find the Decepticon camp, and Cliffjumper later reported that he found the Decepticons in a valley. Optimus Prime ordered a deployment and engaged the Decepticons. When the cells became unstable, Optimus Prime ordered a retreat.

At the Ark, Optimus calmed down accusations by Cliffjumper that Mirage was a traitor and deployed Cliffjumper to make sure that the Decepticons didn't relocate. However, Mirage disappeared. Cliffjumper returned and reported that Mirage had delivered Energon cubes to the Decepticons. Optimus disregarded the accusations but ordered an attack on the camp once more. During the battle, the Autobots discovered that Mirage was being mind-controlled and the Autobots pushed back the Decepticons and the electro-cells exploded. Optimus Prime apologized to the scientists of the Experimental Energy Research Laboratory at the Ark.[81]

Optimus received reports that the Decepticons had attacked a gold mine. Optimus deployed and engaged the Decepticons but the Autobots were defeated and Gears was captured. Optimus returned to the Ark and the Earth began to tremble as the sun was unstable due to the Decepticon Solar Needle in Africa. Optimus deployed to Africa and engaged the Decepticons, destroying the Solar Needle, liberating Gears, and forcing the Decepticons into a retreat.[82]

Optimus Prime received reports of strange energy readings in the Atlantic Ocean and deployed Autobots to investigate. He later received reports that the energy came from Energon mining by the Decepticons and the newly-discovered civilization of Sub-Atlantica. The Autobots had engaged their forces. When Sub-Atlantica rose from the ocean and went to Washington, D.C. to take over the United States, Prime led a force that defended the American capital from the Decepticon-Sub-Atlantican Alliance.

Optimus Prime then directed an amphibious assault on Sub-Atlantica itself that resulted in King Nergill of Sub-Atlantica detonating the energy reserves of the city and destroying it. Optimus ordered a retreat to the Ark.[83]

The Decepticons later launched an attack on the Ark and Prime led the defense. During the battle, the Decepticons planted a Personality Destabilizer in the Autobot Recharge Chamber to corrupt the Autobots.

The next morning, the Autobots were corrupted and Prime attacked an Air Force Base. Optimus was eventually repaired by Bumblebee and other Autobots and received reports that the Decepticons were going to take a rocket from a satellite to power the Decepticon Empire. Optimus, with the help of Jazz and Skyfire, stopped the Decepticon plot. The Autobots then repaired the damage Prime had done at the Air Force base.[84]

Optimus received reports of unexplained changes in the course of oil tankers in the Atlantic Ocean. Dr. Paul Gates of Quantum Laboratories then reported that the lab was under siege by its own supercomputer TORQ III. Optimus deployed Hound to deal with the tankers and Prime led a unit to Quantum Laboratories. Prime learned that TORQ III had been reprogrammed by the Decepticons and Prime managed to shut the computer down and destroyed it.

Optimus then deployed to reinforce Hounds forces at the location where Megatron was gathering oil tankers. Optimus liberated the tankers and the Decepticons destroyed the facility in a retreat.[85]

Optimus Prime dismantled by the Decepticons, New York City, 1985 CE.

When the Decepticon attacked New York City, Prime led the Autobots against them. The battle resulted in the Decepticons being driven from the city and the Autobots restored the city.[86]

Under the suggestion of Chip Chase and Spike Witwicky, Optimus Prime led the Autobots in a public exhibition and race for charity. However, the Decepticons locked them in their alternate modes with the Transfixitron. The Decepticons engaged the Autobots and captured Optimus Prime and other Autobots. The Decepticons took the Autobots to a ghost town to be executed when other Autobots arrived and undid the effect of the Transfixitron. In the following battle, the Decepticons were defeated.[87]

The Fall of Cybertron (1986 CE - 2005 CE)

Optimus Prime passing the Matrix on his deathbed, Autobot City, 2005 CE.

In 2005 CE, Optimus Prime organized the Autobot resistance against the Decepticons based out of Moonbase One. However, the Autobot efforts were low on Energon. Optimus Prime ordered Ironhide to deploy to Autobot City on a shuttle to get Energon cubes to power a full-scale assault on Cybertron.

Optimus later received a report from Autobot City that the city was falling to a massive Decepticon attack. Optimus Prime deployed to Earth and took command of the situation in Autobot City, turning the tide for the Autobots. However, Optimus Prime was mortally wounded by Megatron though Prime likewise severely damaged Megatron to the point that the Decepticons retreated.

While under medical attention, Perceptor declared that Prime's wounds were fatal. Optimus Prime passed the Matrix of Leadership to Ultra Magnus and finally succumbed to his wounds.

Optimus Prime's life force remained in the Matrix of Leadership with Hot Rod later opened the Matrix to defeat Unicron, the Dark Lord who was attacking Cybertron. Optimus Prime bestowed the name of Rodimus Prime upon his true successor.[88] In 2010 CE, Rodimus Prime traveled into the Matrix to find answers about the origin of the Transformers. Optimus Prime served as one of Rodimus's guides and informed Rodimus about his past and his involvement in the beginning of the Third Cybertronian War.[89]

New Chance At Life (2010 CE - ?)

Nevertheless, the Third Cybertronian War carried on. Optimus Prime led the Autobots in the final battle against what was left of the Decepticons where he was killed in battle. A tribute hologram to Optimus Prime was made in Iacon in his honor.[90] Many other statues would be made in his honor as well.[91]

Profile Information

Early Days (4010000 BCE - 1984 CE)

Optimus Prime taking active command of the Autobots during the early stages of the Great War.

Optimus Prime came from Iacon, the greatest of the Cybertronian city-states. Optimus Prime was chosen and encoded with the [[Matrix of Leadership|Creation Matrix] in c.4,010,000 BCE. He rose to the position of leadership of the Autobots during the Great War when the Decepticons were pushing the Autobots back. Under Optimus Prime's command, the Autobots managed to push back the Decepticons' offensive and captured fallen city-states, rebuilding them as sanctuaries for the Autobots and neutrals. The war continued for over one thousand years. During this time, the Autobot Prowl became Optimus Prime's most trusted adviser.

In 4 MYA, Optimus Prime and Prowl were present at a meeting of the Autobot Elders who informed Prime that Cybertron was about to drift into an asteroid belt that would destroy Cybertron. Optimus Prime decided to take a specially-selected crew to go forth and destroy the asteroids approaching Cybertron. Since Optimus knew that the mission would expose the Autobot warriors to Decepticon attack, Optimus decided to captain the mission himself to help defend the ship if need be. Before take-off, the Autobots Grappel, Smokescreen, Skids, Hoist, and Tracks all allowed Optimus Prime to copy their minds in case Optimus needed more warriors during their mission. The Autobots launched on the ship Ark and destroyed the asteroids, saving their drifting home planet. Predicting that the Decepticons would take the opportunity to attack the now low-on-ammo Autobots, Optimus Prime plotted a course to only be used in case of emergency. The course would be a suicide heading into the nearby planet of Earth. As Optimus gave his victory speech and suggested making pace with the Decepticons, the Decepticon forces under their Emperor Megatron struck the Ark. As the battle on the Ark got out of hand, Optimus enacted the suicidal heading protocol, crashing the Ark into the side of Mount St. Hilary. The impact sent the combatants into Stasis Lock. During the loss of Optimus Prime, the Autobot war effort on Cybertron continued under the command of Perceptor.

A Brave New World (1984 CE)

Optimus Prime reveals himself to the Witwickys, 1984 CE.

In 1984 CE, Mount St. Hilary erupted and activated Aunty, the Ark's computer. Aunty repaired all of the Transformers on the Ark and gave the combatants new Earth-based Alternate Modes. After the Decepticons fled the Ark, Optimus Prime took roll of the Autobots and swore to return the crew to Cybertron. The crew then began to make repairs to the Ark. Once Aunty was fully repaired, Optimus Prime and the Autobots watched footage of Earth vehicle traffic for hours. Coming to the conclusion that the planet had mechanical life, Optimus decided to make a mission objective to protect the life of Earth from the Decepticons. Prime deployed a scouting unit under the command of Prowl for reconnaissance.[93] The scouting crew later returned with casualties as Bumblebee was missing in action. The unit informed Prime that the machines were not the dominant life form of Earth but rather it was the humans who were the dominant intelligent species. Optimus had Aunty complete a reserve fuel analysis and found that the reserves were too low for continued operation. Optimus came to the conclusion that the Autobots needed to make an alliance with humanity to trade Cybertronian technology for fuel. Just then, Hound received a call from Bumblebee who reported that the Decepticons had already obtained a powerful fuel source and the he had also formed an alliance with the human Sparkplug Witwicky who had agreed to converting Earth fuel into something the Autobots could consume. Optimus congratulated Bumblebee and deployed the Autobots under his command to Bumblebee's location.

The unit arrived at S. Witwicky Auto Repairs and Optimus Prime greeted Sparkplug and Buster Witwicky. However, the Decepticons launched an attack on the location. Optimus fought Megatron, who informed Prime that his objective as to conquer Earth and to use the planet as a launching site for the conquest of Cybertron. The Decepticons managed to abduct Sparkplug Witwicky and they retreated. Buster pleaded to the Autobots for them to save his father but the Autobots, including Optimus Prime, fell to the ground, low on fuel.[94] Just as Buster's friends Jesse and O arrived, Optimus stated that once the Autobots were repaired the Autobots would save Sparkplug. Optimus deployed his forces back to the Ark, bringing Buster along with him as well. Once the Autobots returned to the Ark, Optimus was greeted by Ratchet who told Optimus that he had discovered information on the computer. However, Optimus told him that information could wait and that the Autobots needed repairs.

Following the repairs, Optimus Prime led the Autobots to the Decepticon headquarters of Fortress Sinister which was surrounded by the armed forces of the United States. Gears befriended Spider-Man, a super powered human who wanted to help the Autobots. Optimus had Spider-Man help the Autobots through the US military defenses. Once through, the Decepticons fought the invading Autobots. The battle closed after Gears fell from the Decepticon base with Spider-Man who had rescued Sparkplug. The Autobots retreated back to the Ark where Optimus Prime saw Spider-Man off. Gears was repaired and reported that Sparkplug gave the Decepticons fuel.[95] This sparked argument between the Autobots over the value of the alliance with the Witwickys. Optimus calmed down the situation by shifting focus on getting fuel of their own regardless if the Decepticons have fuel or nor. The Witwickys tried to flee the Ark but Jazz used his flamethrower to stop them. This caused Sparkplug to have a heart attack and Optimus ordered Ratchet to take the humans to a location where he could get medical attention.

Later, Huffer showed Optimus Prime footage from the Ark's computer that revealed that the Decepticon Shockwave had landed on Earth in the Savage Land just after the crash of the Ark and that the Dinobots were deployed from the Ark to deal with him. Huffer also reported that Ratchet had sent out a probe to report on the fates of Shockwave and the Dinobots. Optimus then diverted his attention on organizing a battle plan against the fueled Decepticons. The Autobots used the Tubes of Transference to give more power from the weaker Autobots to the stronger Autobots (including Optimus Prime). Just then, the Decepticons attacked the Ark. The Autobots began to be defeated until the Decepticons suddenly fell as their fuel had been poisoned by Sparkplug Witwicky. As the Autobots began to emerge victorious, Shockwave arrived and defeated the remaining Autobots.[96]

Continuing Strife (1985 CE)

Decapitated Optimus Prime imprisoned in the Ark, 1985 CE.

As the year changed to 1985 CE during Shockwave's victory, Optimus Prime was decapitated by the new Decepticon leader and his head was hooked up to a computer so Shockwave could attempt to extract the Creation Matrix program from Prime's head. Buster Witwicky eventually arrived and discovered Optimus.[97] Under Optimus's direction, Buster hooked up wires from Prime's head to his own head allowing Optimus to transfer the Creation Matrix to Buster to keep the Matrix out of Shockwave's grasp. Buster was shocked unconscious but eventually woke up and wandered out of the Ark.[98] Afterwards, Ratchet arrived and discovered Optimus. Prime tried to inspire morale in Ratchet as it was now up to Ratchet to save the Autobots. Ratchet, slightly more reassured, left the room.[99]

Under Shockwave's orders, Megatron had Optimus Prime's head moved to the recently-conquered Blackrock Aerospace Plant Number One. Shockwave met with Optimus Prime and revealed that he was going to use Prime and his Creation Matrix to create the next generation of Decepticons.[100] Shockwave used Optimus's residual Creation Matrix energy to create life for six Brain Modules. Optimus was disgusted by his own inadvertent creations.[101] These Brain Modules were used to create the Constructicons: Scrapper, Mixmaster, Hook, Long Haul, Scavenger, and Bonecrusher. This unit was a Combiner unit and possessed the ability to combine into Devastator. Shockwave then revealed to Prime that he would continue to use Optimus to bring life to his new creation, Jetfire. However, Shockwave later found that Optimus Prime no longer possessed the Creation Matrix.[102] Shockwave eventually discovered that Buster Witwicky now had the Creation Matrix and Optimus felt deeply ashamed that he had put a human in harm's way. Shockwave deployed the lifeless Jetfire to capture Buster before Prime's eyes.[103]

While in the room that held Optimus's head, Soundwave reported to Shockwave that he had discovered an espionage device inside the facility as Shockwave had suspected as the recently-restored Autobots had already went on the move to defend Buster Witwicky. Shockwave had the device activated before Prime and stated that Optimus Prime would be disposed of since he did not have the Creation Matrix any longer. Shockwave stated that Prime's head would be dropped in a nearby swamp. Shockwave then had the device turned off and deployed a fake Optimus Prime head to the swamp, a head that was programmed to take over the real body of Optimus Prime and turn against the Autobots as this was all a trap set up by Shockwave.

Jetfire eventually returned to the plant with the abducted Buster Witwicky. Prime watched as the Decepticons set up Witwicky to have the Matrix extracted from him. All the while, Shockwave informed Prime that 50% of the Autobot forces had fallen to the fake Optimus Prime at the swamp, supported by Soundwave's forces. Shockwave then gave orders to the lifeless Jetfire to destroy the real head of Optimus Prime just when Buster Witwicky awoke. Buster quickly acted and used the powers of the Matrix to make Jetfire punch out Shockwave. Under Buster's direction, Jetfire took the head of Optimus Prime and flew him over to the swamp. As Jetfire approached the swamp, Optimus managed to take control of his body and removed the false head from it. Jetfire dropped Prime's real head back onto the his original body, making Optimus Prime whole again. Optimus Prime immediately set to work fighting back Soundwave's Decepticons. The Decepticons eventually were forced until a retreat but Shockwave later arrived. Prime and Shockwave fought and the duel ended when Optimus threw Shockwave into the swamp. Before Optimus could finish Shockwave off, Optimus realized that he needed to help Buster and he ran to Blackrock Aerospace Plant Number One. Once arriving, Optimus found that Buster was freed by the workers. Optimus then took the Creation Matrix back from Buster.[104]

Optimus Prime took back command of the Autobots at the Ark. He used the Creation Matrix to give life to Jetfire as an Autobot and observed Jetfire going through the Rite of the Autobrand. Prime then received a medical report from Ratchet who reported that he was making little progress with the wounded Autobot warriors. Optimus then was present with Wheeljack when he put the copied minds of Grapple, Smokescreen, Skids, Hoist, and Tracks into new bodies. Optimus then had Bumblebee lead these new Autobots outside the Ark for training. However, Prime had Grapple stay behind as he wanted to work with Grapple on a new project: A robot to serve as the defense system for the Ark, Omega Supreme.

Shortly afterwards, Optimus Prime received a report from the Autobots' human ally G.B. Blackrock that the Decepticons were planning to steal sonic energy in the vicinity of Bumblebee's unit. Optimus warned Bumblebee of the situation and Skids suggested that the Decepticons were going to steal energy from a concert that night. Optimus sent Bumblebee's unit to investigate but gave orders for the unit to not engage the enemy and that Optimus himself would lead a back-up squad. Later that night, Optimus deployed with the reinforcements but came upon Bumblebee's unit who reported that his unit routed Shockwave's Decepticons. Optimus Prime was impressed at the ability of the unit.[105]

Later on, Optimus Prime sent Bumblebee in command of a unit to find the current operating headquarters of the Decepticons but the unit later returned with no findings. Wheeljack then reported that there was a strange transmission being broadcast. Optimus watched the broadcast as a man identifying as "Robot-Master" declared that the Transformers were under his control. Optimus was confused as to the nature of the broadcast and sent Bumblebee to meet with G.B. Blackrock to gather intel on this human. Later, a news station broadcast that the station had discovered the still body of Megatron at a coal mine near the Powder River Basin in Wyoming. Wheeljack reported this to Optimus and Optimus ordered a deployment to capture Megatron. Arriving at the site, the United States military opened fire on the Autobots while Soundwave arrived and revived Megatron with fuel. Upon the revival of Megatron, Optimus ordered a retreat while reminding his forces to not judge the humans too harshly for the attack.[106] Returning to the Ark, the Autobots began to be repaired. Optimus watched the local news and observed the news's anti-Transformer bias. Optimus decided that since the humans would likely be more hostile thanks to the efforts of Robot-Master, the Autobots should stick closer to the Ark. Prime noted that Bumblebee was missing from the meeting. Later that evening, Optimus saw the news report where Bumblebee was under attack by Shockwave's Decepticons in a human city. Optimus ordered a deployment with the objective of rescuing Bumblebee. When Shockwave got a visual on Prime, he ordered a retreat. The Autobots rescued Bumblebee and returned to the Ark.[107]

Streak of Victory (1986 CE)

In 1986 CE, Grapple completed the body of Omega Supreme and Optimus Prime gave the new warrior life through the Creation Matrix. Optimus and Grapple unveiled Omega Supreme to the Autobots and Optimus Prime revealed that he planned to go to the Decepticon coal mine base and steal their Combiner technology that they possessed. During this announcement, Grimlock of the Dinobots (who were recovered during Prime's absence) argued that Optimus should press the advantage and wipe out the Decepticons in one attack. Optimus disagreed as he believed that course of action was impossible. This angered Grimlock and he took his unit and abandoned the Autobots. Unfazed, Optimus Prime ordered the deployment of the Autobots to the Decepticon base, breaking through the United States military blockade of the base's perimeter. Optimus Prime led the attack against the base which was defended by Shockwave's Decepticons. Shockwave ultimately felt provoked enough to send out Devastator. Bumblebee gathered the data of Devastator's combination sequence and, after reporting to Optimus, Optimus Prime ordered a retreat. During the retreat, Skids was knocked down a cliff by Ravage. Optimus witnessed this but decided to carry on, leaving Skids behind as the unit had not time to waste. The unit returned to the Ark where they found that Megatron had led an attack on the Ark but lost most of his forces to Omega Supreme who had put the captured Decepticons into cold storage. The Autobots celebrated the victories they had on this day but Optimus could not join the celebrations as he mourned the loss of Skids.[108]

Using the new Combiner technology, the Creation Matrix, and Wheeljack's handiwork, Optimus Prime created the Autobots' own combiner, the Aerialbots made of Silverbolt, Fireflight, Skydive, Air Raid, and Slingshot who could combine to form Superion. Optimus then went to be repaired by Ratchet when Skids and Robot-Master, also known as Donny Finkleberg arrived. Optimus was glad to see Skids alive and had the both of them come int during his check-up. Donny reported that the Decepticons had access to a Space Bridge that accidentally sent over seven Autobots from Cybertron to Earth. In order to confirm Finkleberg's report, Optimus sent Jetfire to escort Finkleberg to check on the location of the rumored Space Bridge. Bumblebee later reported that a gunman was taking over the Hoover Dam to collect its energy. Optimus had the Aerialbots deployed to handle the situation.[109] Finkleberg and Jetfire found a trail of the new Autobots. However, the Aerialbots' mission was not as successful as the Aerialbots came close to killing humans at the Dam.

Optimus had his wounds continued to be checked on by Ratchet and then checked on Wheeljack who was fitting Skids with a chemical tracker to help Skids locate the Autobots from Cybertron. Optimus then joined Wheeljack in preparing the Aerialbots to have their minds reset by the Creation Matrix as punishment for their behavior in their previous mission. Later that day, Skids reported that he was under attack by the Decepticons so Optimus deployed the Aerialbots to help him. The Aerialbots ultimately were captured by the American military unit known as the Rapid Anti-robot Assault Team, or RAAT. Skids and Finkleberg were able to continue with their mission until they too were captured.[110]

The Death of Optimus Prime (1987 CE)

Optimus Prime is destroyed at Energy Futures Industries' Hydrothermocline Plant, 1987 CE

With the Autobot forces slightly diminished by 1987 CE, Optimus Prime continued to monitor human broadcasts. Through this, he learned about the new American device called Power Station Alpha. Optimus suspected that the Decepticons would try to attack the station and sent Bumblebee to watch over the station's initial launch. Bumblebee later reported that there were Decepticons in the vicinity and Optimus Prime deployed the recently-returned Aerialbots to back up Bumblebee.[111] As Prime wondered why the Decepticons were able to anticipate the Autobot moves so well recently, Optimus had Wheeljack give him a check-up. Through this, they located and removed a Cerebroshell that was in Prime's head, implanted by the Decepticon Bombshell to listen to Prime's thoughts. The two re-worked the device to listen into the Decepticon base. Through this, the Autobots learned that the Decepticons were planning on striking Energy Futures Industries for the Hydrothermocline Plant that night. Optimus Prime gave life to the new Protectobots, a Combiner group made of Hot Spot, Groove, Blades, Streetwise, and First Aid. They possessed the ability to combine into Defensor. With the Protectobots, Optimus Prime intercepted Megatron and his Combaticon unit at the plant. The two commanders came to the conclusion that their fight would destroy the Hydrothermocline that Megatron desired. However, the scientist Ethan Zachary was captured by the Decepticons. To spare his life, Zachary suggested that the two factions should fight in the virtual reality of a game so that the victor could decide who won the Hydrothermocline. Megatron approved on the condition that the commander of the loosing team would be destroyed in real life upon defeat. The Autobots and Decepticons were put into the game of Multi-World. During the battle, Megatron and Optimus came face-to-face and Optimus sent Defensor to defeat Megatron. Defensor and Megatron fell into an abyss but Megatron managed to use a cheat code to apparate back onto the combat platform. Once more, Optimus Prime defeated Megatron but in doing so Prime extinguished the lives of the virtual citizens of Metropipes. After the game was over, Optimus came to the conclusion that if that battle was in reality then he would have broken his principle of not killing innocent lives. Optimus decided to have his own explosives in his body set off instead of Megatron's. Ethan Zachary pushed the button to activate the explosives and Optimus Prime exploded. However, Zachary secretly had Optimus's mind saved on to a floppy disk and stored away.[112] Prime's body was restored by the Autobots and a funeral was held for him at the Ark. As per tradition, Optimus Prime's body was sent into space.[113] Optimus Prime was succeeded by a provisional council led by the newly-arrived Perceptor and then by the returned Grimlock.

The Return of Optimus Prime (1988 CE)

As time went into 1988 CE, Ethan Zachary worked with Optimus Prime by playing as Prime's character in many games. Optimus Prime had lost all memories of his past and only believed himself to be a character in a game. In one game, he led the Mechabots against the Bombasticons on Hyper-Fax. These games were all attempts by Zachary to get Optimus Prime to remember his original self. Prime spoke with Zachary and stated that he didn't feel any different after each game. Zachary tried giving Optimus a history lesson of his past once more but Optimus understood his past as another game he participated in. Zachary showed Prime the news about a recent Decepticon attack on a Genetic Research Lab but Optimus did not recognize the Decepticons. Ethan Zachary fed Optimus Prime a new memory that he had uncovered about the Ark. Optimus Prime recognized the Ark as something from a past game. Zachary, attempting to locate other Autobots to help, asked Prime if he could make contact with the Ark. Optimus tried but the Ark was gone. Zachary then showed Optimus Prime an image of Buster Witwicky and Optimus identified him as a character who he was in games with. Upon learning his name, Zachary tried calling the Witwickys in Portland only to contact an upset Sparkplug Witwicky who was angry over how the Autobots had changed his family's lives. Optimus took this to mean that some players were sorer losers than others.

Later that night, Goldbug (the reformatted version of Bumblebee) arrived and met Zachary and Optimus Prime. Goldbug suggested to Ethan that if Optimus led the Autobots in a counterattack, he might snap out of his belief that he was a game character. Ethan sent Optimus on a mission to hack into the Genetics Lab's computers where Scorponok's Decepticons were making camp. Optimus managed to infiltrate the Decepticon's systems and observed Scorponok has he created the Decepticons Pretenders. Optimus gathered this information before being detected by the Decepticons and was sent back to Zachary at Alternate Reality, Incorporated. Ethan had Optimus send the Pretender technology data to the Autobot ship Steelhaven. This resulted in the Pretender technology being applied to the Autobots Landmine, Cloudburst, Waverider, Groundbreaker, Sky High, and Splashdown. Optimus was sent into the Decepticons computers once more had made his presence known. Ethan used the hacked computer to coordinate a battle between the Autobot Pretenders and Decepticon Pretenders. Optimus then began to materialize in the Genetics Lab and briefly engaged Scorponok. Optimus fazed into Scorponok which defeated the Decepticon. Prime then returned to the computers and met with the Autobot Pretenders at Alternate Reality, Inc. while inside the computer. The soldiers congratulated Prime on his new victory. Optimus stated that he learned to become a better leader but he still believed that he was inside a game and that the entire battle was a game.[114]

Ethan Zachary gave Goldbug the floppy disc containing Optimus Prime's mind and Goldbug vowed to develop a new body for Prime.[115] A new body for Optimus Prime was later built on the planet Nebulos by Goldbyg, Getaway, Joyride, Slapdash, and the Nebulans Lube, Hotwire, Kari, and Hi-Q. When Optimus's body was completed, the group fueled the body with the poisoned fuel of Nebulos. Optimus Prime's mind was installed into his body but once more believed this reality was merely a game. On Lube's suggestion, Optimus Prime combined with his trailer, a feature of his new body. Suddenly, Optimus felt the pain of the poisoned fuel. Realizing that he was dying, Optimus came to the conclusion that he was alive. His memories returned and the Autobots and Nebulons went through the Powermaster process to keep the Autobots alive. Hi-Q personally bonded with Optimus Prime, making him a Powermaster.

When the Decepticon Powermasters Dreadwing and Darkwing attacked the camp of the Powermaster Autobots, the Autobots faced the two and managed to defeat them, forcing the Decepticons to be banished from Nebulos. Hi-Q and the Nebulans said farewell to the non-Powermaster Goldbug as the group believed that the Powermaster Autobots needed to stay on Nebulos as their lives were tied with the Nebulans there. However, Kari suggested that the Nebulan Powermasters go with the Autobots. Hi-Q agreed, and the Nebulans and the Powermasters, including Optimus Prime, returned to the Steelhaven and left Nebulos.[116]

Early Days (c.4 MYA - 1984 CE)

Optimus Prime became the leader of the Autobots when he received the Autobot Matrix of Leadership.[117] Optimus Prime gained popularity as a leader during the Third Cybertronian War as he led the Autobots in the Battle of Jan-Ja against the Decepticons. He took the banner of his fallen Monark (Primax) and his battle cry at the battle, "Never surrender", was critical for Autobot morale.[118] In 4 MYA, Optimus Prime was in charge of the general resistance against the Decepticons.

Around 180,000 BCE, a Predacon from the future named Megatron in honor of the original Megatron arrived at the Ark to kill Optimus Prime to prevent Decepticon defeat in the Third Cybertronian War. Megatron shot the unconscious Prime in the head, critically wounding Prime and causing a time storm.[119] Optimus Primal, leader of the time-displaced Maximals and enemy of Megatron, led his forces into the Ark and began to make repairs to Prime after Megatron had been defeated. Vector Prime of the Thirteen also intervened to help repair Optimus Prime so that time would be kept together.[120] To assure that Optimus Prime's Spark would survive, Optimus Primal took the Spark of Prime into his own body which reformatted Primal into a Transmetal II body. Optimus Primal later returned the Spark of Optimus Prime back into his body. Optimus Prime briefly awoke and looked at Optimus Primal before being deactivated once again.[121] Shortly after the Beast Wars, the Vok came into the Ark and took the Matrix of Leadership from Prime's body and used it to create Primal Prime.[122] Later, Primal Prime returned the Matrix to Optimus Prime.[123]

A Brave New World (The Earth Campaign, 1984 CE)

Optimus Prime during the Battle of Sherman Dam, 1984 CE

In 1984 CE, the volcano housing the Ark erupted and activated the Decepticons through happenstance. The Decepticons were victorious in the battle and fled with Energon cubes while destroying the rig.[124] Optimus Prime quickly ordered an evacuation of the human laborers from the rig and freed the trapped workers Spike Witwicky and Sparkplug Witwicky.

The operation was a failure as Optimus Prime was wounded while deploying Roller and the Decepticons escaped with Energon cubes.[125] Roller managed to return and Optimus Prime also recovered and the Autobots returned to the Ark.

With the support of the United Nations, Optimus Prime directed the refueling and repairing efforts of the Ark to return to Cybertron.[126] Despite the apparent destruction of the Decepticons with the fall of the Victory, Optimus Prime remained skeptical to the fall of the enemies.

Despite the Autobot victory at the Space Bridge and the apparent destruction of Megatron, Optimus Prime still could not believe that his foe was dead again.[127]

Optimus Prime led the Autobots in the battle against the Decepticons which resulted in the Decepticons being defeated with the help of Chip Chase.[128]

Just as the Decepticons launched an attack on the Ark, Optimus Prime was fully repaired and Prime managed to defeat the Decepticons, causing them to retreat.[129]

The Decepticons were forced into a retreat and the Autobots returned to the Ark without the frozen Skyfire.[130]

Because of the Dinobots' assistance, Optimus decided that the Dinobots would remain among them.[131]

They defeated the Decepticons' efforts to use the Earth's core to power a new weapon and celebrated victory in Peru before returning to the Ark.[132]

The explosion was contained and Prime feared for the main part of themeteor and went to check on it. There, the Dinobots had been influenced by Megatron into betraying Prime and they defeated him and brought him to Megatron who had the meteor. Swoop and Snarl arrived and the Decepticons were pushed out as the meteor blew up. Grimlock and his Dinobots returned to the command of Optimus Prime with his pardon.[133]

Optimus Prime leading the amphibious assault on the Sea Funnel, 1984 CE.

This created catastrophic damage[134] and Optimus Prime eventually ordered a retreat.

Optimus received intelligence that Sparkplug was on Cybertron and ultimately allowed an Autobot raid to happen on their nearby home planet.[135]

The raid on Cybertron also would come back as a success, allowing for the freeing of humanity.[136] Shortly after the crisis, Optimus devoted his forces to rebuilding the damaged planet Earth.

The two managed to fire the Exponential Generator into space and Prime returned to the Ark.[137]

Optimus Prime defeated by Megatron in a duel, 1984 CE

Optimus Prime received reports of Autobot forces in Bali to investigate reports of giant insects. Optimus Prime joined the investigation that turned into a battle with the Decepticons and the newly discovered Insecticons. The Decepticons retreated and, after a short break for repairs, the Autobots engaged the Decepticons and Insecticons again at an oil refinery, forcing a Decepticon defeat.[138]

With this report, Optimus Prime ordered a counter attack on the Decepticons which resulted in their defeat.[139]

Deadlocked Strategy (The Earth Campaign, 1985 CE)

In 1985 CE, Optimus was present for the demonstration of Sparkplug Witwicky's Autobot X, an experiment made from spare Autobot parts.

Spike's mind was later transferred back into his healthy human body.[140]

Optimus later accepted Ironhide's request to return to active duty.[141]

After more Autobot reinforcements arrived from Cybertron, Teletraan 1 picked up strange energy waves in the ocean. Prime deployed Bumblebee and Powerglide to investigate. Bumblebee later returned and reported that they had discovered an island inhabited by dinosaurs. Wheeljack then demonstrated the results of trying to improve the Dinobots' mental capabilities. This resulted in chaos that damaged the Ark further. Prime decided to give the Dinobots more room to live and sent them to the island that would be dubbed Dinobot Island.[142] The damage done by the Dinobots were repaired and Prime received reports of strange energy in Central City. Prime deployed to the city, finding that it was under attack by prehistoric humans riding on Mammoths that came from a time portal. The Autobots managed to send the interlopers back to their time and closed the portal. Prime enlisted the aid of Chip Chase to find the cause of the temporal disturbance though Chip instead found two more opening. Prime deployed Autobot forces to deal with this issue. Chase tracked the source of the temporal disturbances to Dinobot Island. As the volcano the Ark was in began to come alive, Prime deployed to Dinobot Island with a group of Autobots. They found the Decepticons stealing energy from the island and a battle took place that pushed the Decepticons out. The energy was restored to the island and Prime ordered the Dinobots back to the Ark as they demonstrated finesse with their powers.[143]

Optimus Prime apologized to the scientists of the Experimental Energy Research Laboratory at the Ark.[144]

Prime oversaw the installment of detection panels in the Ark when he was contacted by Doctor Fujiyama, a famous scientist from Japan. Fujiyama requested Prime's Autobots for protection as he planned to unveil his creation, a robot created by humanity. Prime ordered his forces to keep watch at the unveiling of Nightbird. The Decepticons attacked and stole Nightbird. Prime apologized to Doctor Fujiyama and vowed to return Nightbird.

At the Ark, Prime oversaw repairs on the wounded Brawn when Nightbird infiltrated the Ark and managed to escape. Prime ordered a delpoyment to capture her. He later received reports that Nightbird stole a chip containing information on all the world's energy resources. The Autobots managed to capture Nightbird but they were attacked by the Decepticons shortly later. Following a traitorous move by Starscream, the Decepticons retreated and Prime returned Nightbird to Dr. Fujiyama.[145]

Optimus deployed to Africa and engaged the Decepticons, destroying the Solar Needle, liberating Gears, and forcing the Decepticons into a retreat.[146]

Optimus ordered a retreat to the Ark.[147]

The Autobots then repaired the damage Prime had done at the Air Force base.[148]

Optimus liberated the tankers and the Decepticons destroyed the facility in a retreat.[149]

Optimus Prime dismantled by the Decepticons, New York City, 1985 CE.

When the Decepticon attacked New York City, Prime led the Autobots against them. The battle resulted in the Decepticons being driven from the city and the Autobots restored the city.[150]

In the following battle, the Decepticons were defeated.[151]

When the Autobots found themselves inflicted by defeat after defeat by the Decepticons, Optimus Prime became aware of the situation after Omega Supreme had been defeated. Learning that the Decepticons were victorious due to their utilization of the element electrum, Prime ordered a deployment against the Decepticons. Optimus Prime and another unit of Autobots managed to secure the Golden Lagoon, the Decepticon's source of electrum, and armored his units with the element. Upon the return of the Decepticons to the lagoon, a battle took place where the Decepticons lost their coating and were defeated though the Golden Lagoon was annihilated.[152]

The Earth campaign continued to go well for the Autobots and Optimus Prime led a coalition of Autobot and United States forces and defeated Megatron's forces in battle. Following the battle, Martian forces invaded Earth. As the Autobots took fire, Prime ordered the unit to take cover. The Decepticons formed an alliance with the Martians and fought against the Autobots but this was a maneuver by the Martians to trap the Autobots and Decepticons in combat in a force field as the Martians intended to conquer Earth and to destroy the Cybertronians on the planet. Optimus Prime and Megatron formed an alliance against the Martians and had Soundwave and Blaster use a frequency to shut down the field and Optimus Prime took command of the Cybertronian forces when Megatron was hit by a shrink ray. The Martian forces were broken and eventually retreated. Immediately following the battle, the Autobot-Decepticon Alliance broke down.[153]

The Fall of Cybertron (1986 CE - 2005 CE)

In either the late 20th century CE or the early 21st century CE, Optimus Prime ordered the construction of Autobot City on Earth.

In 2001 CE, following a massive offensive by the Decepticons, Cybertron fell under Decepticon control. Optimus Prime made plans to evacuate the remaining Autobot forces on Cybertron to Moonbase One and Moonbase Two to maintain an Autobot resistance. Optimus Prime intended to lead the assault but did not want the Matrix of Leadership to be lost in the operation. Prime and Ultra Magnus hid the Matrix underneath the construction site of Autobot City on Earth for the duration of the mission. Optimus assigned Hot Rod the post of guarding Autobot City during the mission and Optimus successfully evacuated the Autobots.

Optimus Prime returned to Earth for the Matrix where he was informed that the city had fallen under Decepticon attack under the command of Soundwave to capture the Matrix. Thanks to Hot Rod, the artifact was defended. While taking the Matrix back from Hot Rod, Hot Rod stated that the Matrix spoke to him. Optimus believed that his meant that Hot Rod had a great destiny before him.[154]

Optimus Prime bestowed the name of Rodimus Prime upon his true successor.[155] Later that year, Rodimus Prime traveled into the Matrix to find answers about the origin of the Transformers. Optimus Prime served as one of Rodimus's guides and informed Rodimus about his past and his involvement in the beginning of the Third Cybertronian War.[156]

New Chance At Life (2007 CE - 316 AU)

Optimus Prime opened the Matrix of Leadership to stop the Hate Plague.[157]

As time went on, Optimus Prime underwent the Powermaster process.

As a Powermaster, Optimus Prime befriended a young boy named Tommy Kennedy who lived in Autobot City. One day, Optimus visited Tommy on a barren planet after Tommy called Prime as Tommy needed help from Prime for a project for school and needed to know about historical events including the Autobot arrival on Earth in 1984 CE. Prime told Tommy the story of the Cybertronian arrival on Earth and the beginning of the Earth campaign. Prime told the story and stopped when he made first contact with the Witwickys as Tommy informed him that he needed to return to Autobot City. Optimus decided to give him a ride under the conditions that the next time they met Tommy would tell Prime about his project. Optimus then flew Tommy back to Autobot City.[158]

Optimus later returned to the meeting planet with Tommy and continued the story until the injuries he sustained in Burma. Tommy again refused to tell Prime about his proejct and Optimus gave Tommy a ride to Autobot City.[159]

Optimus and Tommy met again on the planet and this time Tommy came with a hidden object under a tarp. This was a preview of his project but wanted to know the ending of Prime's story. Optimus continued the story and ended it with the crash of the Victory and Tommy revealed that under the tarp was a bust of Optimus Prime to commemorate the anniversary of the Autobot arrival on Earth. Optimus was impressed and the statue was presented to the Autobots of Autobot City to commemorate "Powermaster Optimus Prime, the greates Autobot of all."[160]

The next time Prime and Tommy met, Tommy had a black eye and bruises as he was bullied by big guys at school. Kennedy asked if Optimus had ever faced any bigger bullies and Optimus decided to tell Tommy the story of the Unicron War of 2005 CE. He told Tommy of the events preceding the Battle of Autobot City and left off on the second day of the battle. Optimus had to leave as he needed to meet with Joyride to repair a Space Bridge. Tommy offered the help and they both went off into space.[161] They met the next day but Optimus did not remember telling the story the day before. Tommy repaired Prime's memory circuit which brought Prime's memory back. Optimus continued the story until the point where Unicron consumed Moonbase One. Prime's memory chip exploded and he only managed to remember the future adventures of Hot Rod. The two went to repair his memory chip.[162] Tommy repaired Prime's chip and Optimus continued the story, leaving off when Hot Rod and Kup landed on Quintessa. The story stopped when Optimus had to leave and they blasted off into space.[163] Optimus went to meet Tommy again, but his pilot, Grimlock, took a wrong turn and he arrived late. He continued to tell the story until the Autobots and the Junkions mobilized to confront Unicron. Optimus had to leave again as Grimlock's brain circuits were scheduled to be upgraded.[164]

The next day, Optimus Prime returned but Tommy stated that he had forgotten most of the story. Optimus gave a recap before resuming, finishing with the destruction of Unicron. Tommy asked more questions but Optimus had to leave for an interstellar peace conference.[165]

Prime returned to the planet and Tommy surprised him. Tommy then asked Prime if the Autobots ever had a time where they faced surprises at every turn. Optimus decided to tell him the story of the Quintesson invasion following the Unicron War. Optimus left off his story at the point where Rodimus Prime and Grimlock were to be overrun by Decepticons. Optimus promised to tell the next chapter the next day.[166] The next day, Prime told the story until the destruction of Quintessa. Prime had to cut off the story as he promised to help Quickswitch test out Cybertron's new security system.[167] Prime returned the next day and continued the story until the Quintesson-Decepticon attack on Rodimus Prime's Autobots on Goo 8739B.[168] Prime returned the next day and continued the story, stopping just as the Quintesson-Decepticon alliance began an attack on Cybertron and Earth. [169] Darkwing and Dreadwind slowed Prime down en-route to Tommy's planet but Prime defeated them. Putting the sector on alert, Prime met with Tommy and continued the story until its finish with Spike Witwicky freeing the Transformers from Quintesson control. Prime was alerted to the fact that Darkwing and Dreadwind had returned and Tommy and prime went out together and defeated the Decepticons.[170]

Optimus met with Tommy again and Prime offered to tell Tommy any type of story he wanted. Tommy asked Prime for a birthday story and Optimus Prime told the story of when Daniel Witwicky went on a quest to learn Ultra Magnus's birthday. After the story, Tommy was sad as Optimus had forgotten his 15th birthday but Prime surprised him with a birthday cake from the Autobots as Hot Rod, Wheelie, Warpath, First Aid, Ultra Magnus, and Groove presented the cake to him.[171]

On another occasion, Optimus met Tommy who was reporting for Autobot City News to interview Prime for how Optimus came back from the dead. Optimus told Tommy the story of how the Quintessons attempted to use Prime to take over the Cybertronians and not how he actually came back to life as his old self, to the disappointment of Tommy. As Tommy ran out of tape, the two went of to find more tape to continue the true story of how Optimus Prime returned.[172] They continued the interview and Optimus Prime told Tommy the story of how we was discovered just before the outbreak of the Hate Plague of 2007 CE and left off upon his resurrection. However, Prime cut off the rest of the story as he had promised Cloudburst that he would help him redesign his retro-rockets.[173] Prime returned and wrapped up the story with the Hate Plague being cured by the Matrix of Leadership. The two then left to refuel Sky High.[174]

Prime later met with Tommy again and Tommy informed Prime that he wanted to become a Headmaster. Optimus decided to tell Tommy the origin of the Headmasters, telling the story until just before the Headmasters were created on Nebulon. Prime tried to talk Tommy out of becoming a Headmaster. However, Optimus had to go as Landmine was going to the shop for minor retooling and Prime promised to be there.[175] Prime returned and Tommy persisted his want to become a Headmaster. Prime told more of the story on Nebulon, ending with the rise of Scorponok. However, Tommy still hadn't been dissuaded. Prime made a deal with Tommy that if by the end of the story Tommy still wanted to become a Headmaster then Prime would make him one.[176] The next day, Prime returned and finished the story with the beginning of the Second Golden Age. After the story, Prime warned that becoming a Headmaster meant going on deadly missions and that Tommy would share leadership of the Autobots with him and would need to increase his study time. Tommy changed his mind, and Optimus Prime left once more.[177]

Nevertheless, the Third Cybertronian War carried on. Optimus Prime led the Autobots in the final battle against what was left of the Decepticons where he was killed in battle. A tribute hologram to Optimus Prime was made in Iacon in his honor.[178] Many other statues would be made in his honor as well.[179] Optimus Prime was once more succeeded by Rodimus Prime.[180]

Following his death, Optimus Prime ended up in J'nwan, a region of Cybertron where space and subspace intersected. Optimus Prime took up the identity of the Authority for his new life in the afterlife. In the 32nd Century CE, Sandstorm journeyed into J'nwan to plead with the warriors of J'nwan to aid the modern-generation of Cybertronians in their rebellion against the tyrannical rule of Shokaract. The Authority declined to help the modern Cybertronians as the time of the warriors of the Third Cybertronian War was over and that it was no longer their war. The Authority manipulated time to make sure that Sandstorm's trip didn't take too much time for him.[181] However, the Authority eventually changed his mind when Shokaract went back in time to 180,000 BCE on Earth as he and the other warriors of J'nwan, including Grimlock, Soundwave, and Megatron, joined forces with Sandstorm in the battle to defeat Shokaract on ancient Earth. The battle was known as the Omega Point. Once Shokaract was defeated, the timeline began to be corrected. the Authority and the other J'nwan warriors went through various portals to avoid being wiped from existence.[182]

Orion Pax Against the Senate (4 MYA)

Orion Pax addresses the Senate, 4 MYA.

Orion Pax of Iacon Minor was forged. He was not very religious. He did not believe in the Guiding Hand nor in the Knights of Cybertron and even thought that the Matrix of Leadership was just a bauble. Pax enrolled in the Iacon Academy of Science and Technology and he befriended fellow student Ratchet. Orion graduated first in his class and received many awards for outstanding achievements and was even medically trained. Pax's friend Ratchet became the Chief Medical Officer on Cybertron but felt unfulfilled. Orion Pax suggested that Ratchet should open a free medic clinic in the Dead End, home for the poor. Ratchet followed Pax's suggestion and established his clinic.

Four million years ago, Orion Pax became the captain of the Rodion Police Force in Iacon. During his tenure, he accumulated awards for valor, merit, and bravery. Orion Pax was known for his policy of zero tolerance against criminals in his jurrisdiction.

Orion's police force arrested the miner named Megatron on the charge of violence against cadets of the Senate at Maccadam's New Oil House. Megatron had his writings confiscated from him and Orion Pax took the time to actually read the writings which encouraged peaceful resistance to the Senate's authority. Pax felt that there was a disconnect between the writings and the crime, so he called the bartender of Maccadam's New Oil House who informed Pax that Megatron stayed out of the fight that led to damage being inflicted on the cadets. Orion Pax called for Megatron's release though he soon learned that Megatron had been abused by Whirl, an officer under his command. Orion had Whirl arrested and later met Megatron face-to-face and returned his writings to him and encouraged Megatron to keep up his efforts and subsequently let Megatron free.[183] Later that night, Orion watched the reports on the recent assassination attempt on Nominus Prime. While watching these reports, enforcers who worked for the Senate arrived and tried to intimidate Pax into letting Whirl free. Orion Pax refused their demands but was left alone and continued to wonder about the level of corruption in the Senate. He went out alone to gather criminals while thinking. Pax returned to the station where his officers Wheelarch and Springarm later arrived to as well and helped Pax put the criminals away in prison cells. Orion momentarily spoke to Springarch about religion before he went out to arrest more criminals.

Orion Pax returned with arrested criminals when he saw that the station had fallen under attack and that Wheelarch and Springarm were dead. Orion fought the attackers, the same Senate enforcers who were trying to free Whirl. After Orion defeated the workers, Whirl warned Orion that the Senate had the power to hunt Orion down if need be. In response, Orion brought Whirl to the Grand Imperium which was in private session and busts through various security guards under the command of Sentinel. Orion Pax broke into the chamber and openly questioned the Senate. During his speech, he quoted from Megatron's writings and laid claim to the term "Autobot." Senator Proteus finally had Sentinel remove him and Orion Pax was beaten by Sentinel's guards. However, the sympathetic Senator Shockwave had Orion Pax rebuilt with an additional chamber in his chest just the right size to hold the Matrix of Leadership.

Orion Pax finally met his savior at the Ark-1 Memorial. Senator Shockwave informed Pax that the assassination attempt on Nominus Prime was orchestrated by the Senate so that they could gain access to the Matrix of Leadership which, according to legend, could create life.[184]

As time went on, Orion Pax told his friends Ratchet and his newer friend and member of the Rodion Police Force Roller about his friend in the Senate and Roller would often tease that Pax liked being shown off by Senator Shockwave.

Orion Pax engaging a criminal at Translucentica Heights, 4 MYA

Orion Pax continued his duties as the famous police officer. He found Sonic and Boom in the Dead End abusing the mindless body of the syphonist Drift. Orion Pax took down the two thugs and had Roller take them to prison while he brought Drift to Ratchet's medical clinic. While there, Orion Pax watched reports that Nominus Prime has died due to a rust infection in his fuel pump. Ratchet commented that when he checked on Prime, his fuel pump was fine. Orion believed that the Senate had killed Nominus and he and Ratchet went to meet Senator Shockwave at the Ark-1 Memorial. Senator Shockwave too believed that the Senate had Nominus killed as the Matrix of Leadership in his chest was fake. Shockwave also theorized that the Senate was going to wipe out the Decepticons soon.[185] Senator Shockwave told Pax that his friend Senator Momus was likely in danger. Orion went to Momus's place of residence, Translucentica Heights. That night, he found that Momus was already dead. Orion managed to take down one of the killers and met Prowl, Tumbler, and Red Alert who were all investigating the prior death of Senator Sherma. While looking a the information and evidence from the quest, Prowl came to the conclusion that the Senators were not killed by Decepticons as they had first suspected but they were killed because they were Decepticons. The team deduced that since the attackers involved in the case were terrible at flying, they likely were using rented bodies from a Relinquishment Clinic. Pax called Roller for a map of nearby Relinquishment Clinics and Roller reported that he had a call from Whirl at Garrus 1 on Luna 2. Orion sent Prowl and Tumbler to find the Relinquishment Clinic while he went to the moon.

Orion met with Whirl who reported that one of his Senate enforcer friends had tipped him off that the Senate was planning on detonating a bomb and that he had a scheme that involved Senator Shockwave. Orion immediately had Roller and Ratchet take Shockwave into protective custody and called Prowl and Tumbler to meet him at the police station.

They all met at the Rodion Police Station and looked at their evidence and Pax came to the conclusion that the Senate had turned the fake Matrix into a bomb and that they were going to detonate it during Nominus Prime's funeral and would blame the incident on the Decepticons. At that point, the Senate would use the list of Decepticons from the Decepticon Registration Act to track down Decepticons and put them through Shadowplay. Orion decided to foil their plans by stealing the Matrix.[186] Orion Pax had Roller and Tumbler recruit the Outlier students of Senator Shockwave from the Jhiaxian Academy of Advanced Technology. Orion then saw Prowl leaving and Prowl told Orion that he wouldn't report Orion's heist to the authorities as long as he kept Tumbler out of it. The Outlier students Skids, Damus, and Windcharger arrived and Tumbler would return with a duplicate copy of the Matrix of Leadership to replace the bomb with.

On the eve of the heist, Roller came to Orion and reported that he found exposing evidence against Senator Shockwave. Orion Pax was enraged at Roller for doing so.

The unit had a briefing on the heist and then deployed. Orion Pax and others put themselves on a platform that Windcharger levitated to the Primal Basilica. Orion was lowered into the Primal Basilica and opened Nominus Prime's chest but quickly switched with Ratchet when he found that the Matrix was locked in the chest. After replacing the Matrix, the unit left the Primal Basilica and Orion became concerned over the fact that Roller, who was managing satellites and watching over Shockwave and Tumbler, had not reported in. Orion jumped off the platform and went to the station where he found Senate enforcers under Kroma fighting Roller's group. Orion joined the battle but Roller was caught. In order to spare Roller's life, Senator Shockwave surrendered. Kroma and the Senator left and had his Heavies fight Pax. Orion used the Matrix bomb to kill the Heavy and destroyed Rodion Police Station. Orion and Tumbler immediately set off to the Institute that Tumbler discovered earlier under a Relinquishment Clinic but found it empty. They realized that the Institute was a network rather than one place.

Orion Pax searched through the ruins of the Rodion Police Station when Zeta, another Cybertronian who was being groomed to become a Prime by Shockwave arrived to see him under previous orders by Shockwave.[187]

Orion waited at the Ark-1 Memorial day after day for Shockwave, but he never came back. Senator Dai Atlas even came to Orion Pax and tried to see if Pax could get through to Senator Shockwave who was pursuing cold and heartless decisions in the Senate. One day, Orion found Senator Shockwave on the street and Pax went to talk with him. However, Shockwave told Orion that Orion should forget about him and one day Orion did eventually give up on Senator Shockwave.[188]

Prowl would end up joining the Autobot Security Services under the Senate which disappointed Orion. However, Orion's war against the Senate was not over as Zeta organized a resistance against the administration of the new Prime, Sentinel Prime. Orion Pax, police officer no more and now branded as an outlaw by the government, became a field commander in Zeta's resistance.

The first Hot Spot in a million years formed in the Alyon Region in the shape of a hand. Zeta realized that Sentinel would want to destroy the Hot Spot to prevent a Functionist takeover of the Senate due to the religious nature of the Hot Spot and Zeta sent Orion Pax in command of a unit to protect the Hot Spot with the intention of harvesting the Sparks and to ship them out to safety. The Elite Guard arrived at the Hot Spot and engaged Orion Pax's forces in multiple waves.

One day during the battle, a floating platform arrived over the battlefield. Pax believed it to be a monitoring station. Orion called Zeta for reinforcements and the next day Orion's forces pushed out another wave of the Elite Guard. Suddenly, a portal opened from Roller's trailer and out came a force of Cybertronians under Rodimus. Though Pax did not know it, these were time-displaced Cybertronians from 2014 CE. Among their forces were Whirl and Chromedome, the renamed Tumbler. Rodimus explained that he was sent by Zeta and Tumbler informed Pax of his name change and Whirl explained that he was on a day release.

The unit regrouped at Orion's dugout base where they all got acquainted. Orion Pax answered a phone call from Megatron (though this too was the Megatron of 2014 CE.) Megatron explained that he was on Croteus-12. Orion offered Megatron a chance to join him and Megatron replied that he would, eventually. Orion delivered the phone to Rodimus and praised Megatron to Roller. Rodimus then reported that the platform was sending radiation to the Hot Spot and Rewind reported that Sentinel Prime was trying to create an army of Outliers. Orion Pax led another engagement against the Elite Guard and took out the platform. The sparks were harvested and sent to Nyon. While Roller was missing, Rodimus had Chromedome wipe the memories of the conflict from Orion Pax's forces and they went back into the time stream.[189]

Orion Pax of the Zeta Prime Administration (4 MYA)

Orion Pax in his new body, 4 MYA.

Following the death of Sentinel Prime at the beginning of the Second Cybertronian Civil War, Zeta was chosen to become his successor, becoming Zeta Prime. Under Zeta Prime and the New Senate's administration, Orion Pax became the Prime's right-hand man in the Autobot ranks, a stark contrast to his prior status as an outlaw. Orion Pax was put in command of a unit with Kup as his aide. He was introduced to his unit where his soldier Ironhide protested Pax's leadership. Orion asked Ironhide to teach him to lead and under Ironhide's tutelage, Orion learned much about leadership.[190]

When Ratchet was kidnapped by Decepticon forces under the command of Bludgeon, Zeta Prime managed to organize a prisoner swap. As the swap was to take place in the Rust Spot, Zeta had Orion Pax have a body change and paired him with hostage negotiator Nightbeat and Cybertronian terrain expert Alpha Trion. He was also given a trailer with Decepticon prisoners to swap, though the prisoners' identities were unknown to Pax.

The unit entered the Rust Spot and Alpha Trion explained that he had explored Cybertron with Metroplex, a Titan that Orion had doubt in existing. The convoy fell under attack by Slicers and the prisoners, Rack and Ruin, escaped. They were quickly captured and Orion spoke to them and learned about instantaneous conversion. Seeing the fear in the optics of Rack and Ruin, Orion realized that Megatron's Decepticon movement was not a pure one. Thundercracker led a unit of Decepticons to escort the Autobots to the Decepticon base where Bludgeon betrayed the Autobots by attempting to abduct Alpha Trion. Orion engaged the enemy and this resulted in him being sent away chained on a rocket. He hit another ship and was on course for Iacon but used instantaneous conversion to escape his binds and piloted the ship into wasteland.[191]

The Decepticons under Starscream attempted a raid to assassinate Zeta Prime in Iacon and Orion Pax and Kup led the Autobot defense. During the battle, Orion Pax met the racer Blurr and managed to convince him to go to the Citadel to inform Zeta Prime of the coming assassination attempt. With Blurr's help, Zeta Prime was saved.[192]

Orion Pax later switched back to his original body and was put in command of a strike team made of Bumblebee, Ironhide, Prowl, Hound, and Silverbolt. Zeta Prime had the unit deployed to Nyon to capture the Decepticon weapons dealer Swindle. During the operation, Orion was needlessly violent towards Swindle and Bumblebee had to pull him off. The unit was then bombed by Hot Rod (who's identity was unknown to the Autobots). Orion Pax then ordered a return to Iacon.[193] At the Citadel, Orion Pax interrogated Swindle but Swindle refused to report on any Decepticon intelligence.

Orion Pax sparred Ultra Magnus and debated the nature of the war as Orion Pax began to question if the Autobots were the right side in reaction to the feelings of the people of Nyon who were anti-Autobot.

Zeta Prime ordered all strike teams to be on alert and Orion joined his team in the Citadel. When an alarm went off in the Senate room, Orion Pax investigated and was pushed aside by the fleeing Decepticon spy Soundwave. Zeta Prime ordered Orion to capture Soundwave as he possessed intelligence that would cause great damage if it were leaked.[194] Orion Pax deployed his team in pursuit of Soundwave though Soundwave used Decepticons under his command to hinder the pursuit. Orion himself was taken down by an angry mob created by Frenzy though he managed to track down Soundwave to the Iacon-Kaon border where he took the target down. Pax's fellow Autobots arrived to join him but a group of Decepticons under Skywarp arrived with the captured Bumblebee and ordered Pax to come with them.[195]

Orion Pax was escorted to the Jump Point, a bar in Kaon. He met with Megatron who showed Pax evidence that Zeta Prime had sent Orion's team into Nyon so that they would die and their deaths would have been used as justification to invade the city and attack the citizens for energy for a new secret weapon, the Vamparc Ribbon. Orion Pax called in his strike team which evacuated Orion and Bumblebee on Sky Lynx.

Sky Lynx brought the team back to Iacon and Pax met with Zeta Prime and suggested that Zeta had set his team up in Nyon but Zeta intimidated Pax into standing down. Zeta Prime then deployed Orion's team in a search for the bomber from Nyon, Hot Rod.[196]

Following their lead, Orion Pax led his team to the Acropolex, the ancient former capital of Cybertron during the time of the Knights of Cybertron. While taking harassing fire from Hot Rod, the team found citizens of nearby Nyon around Energon cells deep in the city. Hot Rod explained that this was a result of Zeta Prime's policy of stealing Energon from the people. Hot Rod pleaded with Pax to turn against Zeta Prime and to create something better. While contemplating this, Zeta Prime attacked Nyon with modified Omega Destructors and Orion made the decision to resist Zeta Prime and to defend Nyon.[197] During the battle, Hot Rod detonated plasma charges throughout Nyon and razed the city to the ground. Zeta Prime attacked Orion Pax and neutralized them all.[198] However, Megatron and his Decepticons arrived and evacuated Pax's unit to Kokular in Kaon. Orion was repaired by the now-Decpticon Shockwave and Orion later spoke with Megatron and finally decided to make an alliance with Megatron to take down Zeta Prime.[199]

Orion Pax becomes Optimus Prime under Iacon, 4 MYA

The two led an assault on Iacon to depose Zeta Prime. Megatron and Orion Pax were dropped on top of the Citadel and engaged Zeta Prime. At the end of the fight, Megatron killed Zeta Prime but immediately turned on Orion Pax, shooting Orion through the chest and letting Pax's body fall underneath the surface of Cybertron.[200] The dying Orion Pax dragged himself to a feeling that was calling out to him. This took him to the genuine Matrix of Leadership, with which Orion Pax interfaced with. This repaired and reformatted Orion Pax into Optimus Prime. Restored, the new Optimus Prime decided that he needed to free his people from the Decepticon occupation that had taken hold on the planet.[201]

The Early Reign of Optimus Prime (4 MYA - 2006 CE)

The Matrix guided Optimus Prime to Nyon as it detected that there were still signs of life in the ruined city. Prime made it to the Acropolex where he met with Bumblebee and other Autobots that escaped Iacon. They fell under his command and Optimus then arose the Titan Metroplex, the true form of the Acropolex.[202] Metroplex recognized Optimus Prime despite the fact that they hadn't met before. Optimus had Metroplex on stand by and deployed to the Nexis in Triax where they liberated the station from the Decepticons and enlisted the aid of newscaster Blaster. The unit then secured the Iaconian Newsfeed Service Headquarters where Optimus Prime delivered a speech to the entire planet, urging for a civilian uprising against the Decepticon occupation.

Optimus Prime then led the charge against Megatron in Iacon.[203] As the battle got heated and Megatron unveiled the Vamparc Annihilator, Optimus Prime called in Metroplex who destroyed the Citadel. Optimus Prime engaged Megatron and critically wounded the Decepticon leader. This forced a Decepticon retreat.

After the battle, Optimus Prime focused efforts on rebuilding Iacon and Metroplex assumed city form as the new capital of Cybertron. Prowl reported to Optimus Prime about a secret storehouse of weapons that Zeta Prime was stockpiling and Optimus Prime ordered Prowl to destroy the weapons.

Shortly afterwards, Optimus spoke with Hot Rod and wondered if one day Hot Rod might hold the Matrix of Leadership.[204]

Optimus began to set out creating a new government to replace the New Senate and formed the Grand Convocation out of leaders who represented various civilian groups on Cybertron, including Dai Atlas of the Circle of Light and Bulkhead of the Engineering Guild. Optimus Prime also wrote two speeches and filed them away until the war was over. One was to be delivered in the event of Autobot victory and the other in the event of Autobot defeat.[205] He also found Whirl and gave Whirl a place in the Autobot ranks to lay claim to him before the Decepticons did.[206] In the first meeting of the Grand Convocation, Dai Atlas made it clear that he was against the rule of the Primes and accused Optimus of being another tyrant. After the poor meeting, Optimus met with Alpha Trion who consoled him about his difficulty leading.[207]

Optimus Prime later called Dai Atlas to meet with him while he was training and he asked for the Circle of Light to join Prime's Autobot forces. Dai Atlas refused as fighting pointless battles was against the ideology of the Circle.[208]

Prime later received reports that one of the last sources of Energon on Cybertron, the Toraxxis Mega Refinery, had come under attack by Decepticon forces under the command of Scorponok and the refinery had become the site of a battle between the Decepticons and the Dynobots under Grimlock. Optimus Prime deployed in command of an Autobot force with Dai Atlas as an attaché to observe the battle. During the battle, Prime observed that Grimlock was out of control. The battle ended when Scorponok activated an explosive and destroyed the Toraxxis Mega Refinery.[209] Optimus Prime managed to survive the explosion and returned to Metroplex where he gave a eulogy to all who perished in the explosion. After the eulogy, Dai Atlas again iterated to Prime that Atlas did not trust the new Prime.

Optimus sent out the Autobot scientist Jetfire in command of other Autobot scientists in order to find more Energon underneath the crater of the former Toraxxis Mega Refinery so to find another source of Energon.

As Cybertron lacked energy resources, the The Exodus|Exodus]] began as civilians began to leave Cybertron en-masse.[210] During the Exodus, Optimus Prime investigated the history of the Dynobots with Kup. They discovered that the unit had participated in a failed mission that resulted in them gaining primal beast modes in order for them to survive. Optimus decided that rather than executing the Dynobots, they were warriors worth saving and sent Kup to find them.[211]

Jetfire's unit reported that they had found corrupt Energon guarded by the ancient monster Trypticon under the crater of the former Toraxxis Mega Refinery. Optimus decided to send the unit on the mission to find a way to purify the Energon and ordered a lock down of the region.[212]

As the Exodus reached its height, Optimus Prime met with the Grand Convocation in an effort to convince Dai Atlas and the Circle of Light to remain on Cybertron. During the meeting, Optimus received reports from Prowl that the situation at Starscreach Spaceport was going bad and Optimus went to calm the situation. However, Prime's charisma still did not sway Dai Atlas and he and the Circle of Light abandoned Cybertron.

Kup later arrived with the Dynobots and Optimus managed to convince the Dynobots that they would put effort into healing the Dynobots. Just then, Decepticon forces attacked Starscreach Spaceport and the civilians were massacred. Optimus Prime led the defense of the spaceport though Grimlock began to become primal.[213] Though Grimlock managed to rout the Decepticons, Optimus Prime had to use force to calm Grimlock down. The Dynobots, without hope, decided to leave the planet.[214]

Optimus was being consoled by Alpha Trion over his leadership when Bumblebee requested Optimus to meet with him. Doing so, Optimus observed that the monster Trypticon had been reactivated and was destroying Harmonex. Metroplex reported that he was unable to fight at the moment so Optimus Prime led the Autobots in the defense of Harmonex.[215] Grimlock and the Dynobots returned to help Prime in the battle though Prime's leadership in the battle was short-lived as Trypticon crushed Optimus Prime. As Optimus was fading out of consciousness, Megatron arrived and goaded to Prime and Grimlock became primal. Optimus tried to tell Grimlock to fight the control but he fell into Stasis.[216] Ultra Magnus saw to Prime during the battle and Grimlock escorted Prime back to Metroplex following the ultimate defeat of Trypticon.[217]

Optimus Prime on his sabbatical on the Grav-Haraan Glacier, 4 MYA

Optimus Prime was later restored and to help along with the healing process, Optimus Prime, accompanied by Ironhide, went on a sabbatical at the Grav-Haraan Glacier in the southern Polar Region to recover. Indeed, Prime adopted a life style that included sabbaticals and in one instance gave the Matrix of Leadership to Thunderclash for the duration of a sabbatical. The Matrix had to be surgically removed to be returned to Optimus Prime.[218] There, they discovered and made contact with Omega Supreme of the Omega Sentinels who explained that he had been standing watch, awaiting the return of Nova Prime ever since he departed on the Ark-1. Optimus brought Omega Supreme back to Metroplex.[219]

Optimus Prime met with Alpha Trion and discussed how to fully re-socialize Omega Supreme with the modern world, though Alpha Trion expressed that he may never fully be one with society ever again after having stood watch for millions of years.

Optimus was called into an emergency meeting with the Conclave of Representatives, the succeeding governing body after the Grand Convocation made of himself, Bumblebee, Hot Rod, Grimlock, and Bulkhead. The meeting was over the fact that the Decepticons were in possession of a newly-restored Trypticon and were lowering the beast over Metroplex airspace. Optimus ordered the citizens to flee into bunkers and then ordered Metroplex to transform to confront the monster.[220] As the battle continued, Omega Supreme reported that there was another vessel in orbit, a Quintesson ship piloted by the Decepticons that quickly descended and speared Metroplex after the Titan had defeated Trypticon. The Autobots emerged from Metroplex and engaged the Decepticons in a great battle. During the battle, Omega Supreme took the time to explain to Prime that he had been waiting for Nova Prime so that he could destroy Nova upon his return. He then reiterated that he believed Optimus Prime to be a true and great Prime.[221] Optimus Prime later fought Megatron personally and Megatron explained that he had unknowingly released an ancient evil inside Trypticon and had unleashed it upon Cybertron. Optimus saw the build up of other evils within Megatron and used the Matrix of Leadership to purify that evil from Megatron's body. This put Megatron in Stasis and Optimus Prime addressed his troops following the Autobot victory. Megatron was captured by the end of the battle.[222]

Despite the Autobot victory at Metroplex, Megatron was freed and the Second Cybertronian Civil War continued for much longer. Megatron offered Optimus Prime a final chance to surrender, but Optimus refused.[223] Optimus Prime and Megatron would face off many different times through the procession of the war, such as the Battle of Sherma Bridge in the Rorsha Campaign in the 2nd Cycle 087. The Autobot and Decepticon forces under the commanders stopped their battle just to watch the two commanders duel on the bridge. In the end, Optimus managed to use his Energon Axe to cut off Megatron's arm equipped with his Fusion Cannon. However, Megatron threw Optimus Prime off of the bridge and it took Ratchet six weeks to find Prime's pieces and another six weeks to put him back together again. Optimus Prime lost five-thousand Autobot soldiers in the battle.[224]

Optimus Prime led the Autobots in the defense of an unknown city to stop a Decepticon Energon convoy from reaching the main Decepticon force. Optimus went solo to fight the convoy himself though he fell under attack by Soundwave. Ironhide reinforced Prime and together the two took down the convoy and captured the Decepticons. Later that evening, a party was held to celebrate the Autobot victory. During the party, Optimus Prime refused to give any formal speeches which dissapointed Kup and Prowl as they wanted to see the new Prime become more formal. Ironhide, on the other hand, supported Prime's leadership philosophy. The Decepticon Axer infiltrated the party and attempted to assassinate Optimus Prime but Ironhide jumped in the way of the shot, wounding him. Ironhide still managed to survive the blow, however.[225]

As the war continued, Optimus Prime created a strategy named the Fivefold Maneuver and was supported by many Autobots.[226]

Optimus led his Autobot forces in the Manganese Mountains Campaign. The Autobot scientist Ironfist created an Ion Blaster for Optimus and personally delivered it to the Prime. However, Optimus Prime mistook Ironfist for his colleague Skyfall. The Ion Blaster would become Optimus Prime's signature weapon.[227]

Optimus Prime deployed Bumblebee and Nightbeat to go with Jetfire to investigate the Decepticons under the command of Bludgeon who were hunting for Metroplex who had fled Cybertron.[228]

As the war continued, the war worsened. During one battle on Cybertron, Optimus and Ironhide disagreed over whether or not to retreat or to flank the battlefield. Optimus planned on withdrawing to Polyhex and believed that the opening that Ironhide saw was a trap. As the Autobots retreated to Polyhex, it was reported that Trypticon was positioned under the opening.

Despite the arguments, the bond between Optimus and Ironhide was strong. In one battle, the two were left hanging on to a cliff-edge until they were rescued.[229]

During the Siege of Massunstrad, Megatron trapped Optimus Prime in an antimatter chamber. As a result of Prime's destruction, the Autobots had to stitch Optimus back together from the blast patterns on the walls.

During the Vorsk Offensive in the 3rd Cycle 119, Optimus Prime engaged Megatron and sliced Megatron into two pieces vertically and narrowly missed Megatron's Spark.[230]

Optimus led the Autobot forces in the Battle of Hell's Point against Megatron's Decepticons in 3rd Cycle 1102. Megatron was testing out a new body in the battle which allowed him to use mass-displacement to transform into a gun. Megatron used his mace to take off half of Prime's face. Optimus Prime fought against the Tremorcons[231] but bested them and used their Geo-Scoop drop an entire city block on Megatron which shattered the Decepticon leader's Transformation Cog, keeping him from transforming back into robot mode for two years.

As the war continued, the war spread into the stars and off-world. Optimus continued to lead the Autobots during this phase. As the war spread wider and wider, Optimus Prime sealed himself in a Hypercognizance Shell to absorb all the reports of the war at once, obsessed with total information.[232] He directed Ultra Magnus's movements during the Battle of Clemency in 2nd Cycle 1874 in this manner.[233]

Optimus led the Autobots in the Battle of Rada Mor where he was desperate to save the lives of the sentient explosives of the planet. Megatron was defeated in the battle and was reduced to cinders (though he was ultimately restored).[234]

Optimus Prime would lead his forces in the Battle of Simanzi in 1st Cycle 3178 which would come to be known as the Simanzi Massacre. During the battle, Optimus saved thousands of Autobot soldiers from falling into the Crucible. As a result of the daring rescue, Pyro (an Autobot he rescued) developed a case of primus apotheosis, a mental disability that had emerged in the war that caused the victim to imitate and worship Optimus Prime.[235]

In 500000 BCE, Optimus received reports that the Ardurian Rocs had been made extinct by a strange cold energy.[236] That same year, as the Decepticons continued their pushes since Simanzi and soon Metroplex was the last Autobot stronghold on Cybertron. Optimus fought in the battle alongside Alpha Trion, Kup, Prowl, and others. Bumblebee arrived to report that Megatron was not letting up on his attack. Under Alpha Trion's suggestion, Optimus approved of having Metroplex and Alpha Trion evacuate the battlefield. Optimus Prime then engaged the Decepticons on the ground.[237]

Optimus Prime deployed Bumblebee and Nightbeat to go with Jetfire to investigate the Decepticons under the command of Bludgeon who were hunting for Metroplex who had fled Cybertron.[238]

Optimus feats grew and grew in spectacle as he risked his life on multiple occasions to save the Autobots. He closed a space-time rift and also led the Autobots in the conflict against the Cult of the Black Epoch to prevent the Black Epoch from coming.[239] He also battled shards of living rage and exorcised the Demonicons, each occasions where he used the catchphrase "Till all are one."[240]

In 8390 BCE, the Dynobots requested permission to get revenge on the Decepticon Shockwave for foiling their operation in retrieving a cache of Energon from Sub-Sector-Nine. Optimus denied the request which resulted in and argument between Optimus and Grimlock, who had already committed numerous acts of insubordination.[241]

In 1550 CE, Thunderwing was unleashed upon Cybertron. Optimus Prime led his Autobots alongside Megatron's Decepticons to bring down the monster that was destroying much of the planet in the First Battle of Thunderhead Pass. Optimus was wounded during the battle but Megatron helped him back up. The battle against Thunderwing began to look hopeless and Megatron suggested that the Autobots and Decepticons should launch nuclear warheads at the planet. However, Prime refused this course of action. It took everything the Autobots and Decepticons had to finally defeat Thunderwing and his body wasn't even recovered. As a result of the battle, the radiation and destruction made Cybertron dangerous and uninhabitable and the warring factions both abandoned Cybertron.[242] Optimus Prime began to organize the war from the Autobot Orbital Command Hub.

At some point after the war had gone off-world, Optimus Prime led the 113th Battalion against the Decepticon Phase-Sixer Black Shadow. He lost 3,003 soldiers in the battle.[243]

In 2003 CE, the Autobot officer Sunstreaker was victorious in taking a planet from the Decepticons. Observing this, Prime sent a congratulatory message to Sunstreaker along with orders to have him be deployed to Prowl's unit which had been stationed on the planet Earth.[244]

From Second Thunderhead Pass to the Expansion Crisis (2006 CE)

Optimus Prime at Thunderhead Pass, 2006 CE.

By 2006 CE, While still stationed at the Autobot Orbital Command Hub, Optimus Prime would still have flashbacks to the devastating First Battle of Thunderhead Pass. Prime received a report from Searchlight that a pulsewave had been sent by Ironhide on Earth, alerting Prime to the fact that the Decepticons had entered Siege Mode on that planet remarkably early.[245]

Prime also received reports of a distress signal from the Autobot science vessel the Calabi-Yau, captained by Jetfire, which was shot down over Thunderhead Pass. Optimus called in the Wreckers and contacted Wrecker commander Springer. Springer suggested that if Thunderwing's return was imminent, then Cybertron needed to suffer a nuclear barrage. Optimus did not give a solid reply but instead geared up to go to Cybertron himself with a group of Autobots including Dogfight who expressed his excitement to Optimus, a sentiment that Prime did not share.[246]

Optimus Prime met with the Wreckers and arrived at Thunderhead Pass, saving the marooned Technobots Nosecone and Afterburner from reactivated Centurion drones. The group infiltrated the nearby headquarters of Bludgeon who had gone AWOL from the Decepticons. Storming the base, they discovered a brain dead Bludgeon as he was mentally destroyed by experimenting with the Pretender processes, the science that had turned Thunderwing into a monster. Optimus was then notified that Thunderwing had been reactivated and was returning to Cybertron after having rampaged Nebulos.[247] Optimus deployed the Wreckers to meet Thunderwing, commencing the Second Battle of Thunderhead Pass. Optimus ultimately decided to intervene himself and had the Centurion drones programmed to follow his lead. Prime engaged Thunderwing and managed to make the monster shut down by throwing everything he had at the enemy. This resulted in another Autobot-Decepticon victory.

Optimus went to the Ark-27 and ordered Jetfire to look through Bludgeon's intelligence. Jetfire reported that Thunderwing was powered by Ore-13, a form of ultra Energon created by Shockwave long ago as part of his Regenesis program. He further reported that Bludgeon's crew had found the Ore on Earth where Prowl's unit was located. Optimus realized that the Siege Mode on Earth wasn't a coincidence and went to Earth himself,[248] arriving on the Ark-19 on Earth just as Prowl's Autobots returned on a mission to observe the newly-arrived Megatron.[249]

Optimus began to study the inhabitants of Earth, the human race. He wrote information on humanity and described them as being frail and needing Autobot protection.[250]

The Autobots observed the superhuman team known as the Avengers in Latveria arguing while the nations of Latveria and Symkaria were engaging in hostile actions. It was evident that the Decepticons were involved and Prime deployed his forces to Latveria.

Upon arriving at Latveria, Prime ordered the Avengers to disperse but the Avengers instead launched an attack on the Autobots.[251] Doctor Doom, head of Latveria, arrived and helped the Autobots pacify the Avengers and Optimus explained that the Decepticons were behind the hostilities. Doctor Doom reported that the Decepticons had taken his Psycho-Prism device and was using it to escalate tensions. Optimus then identified the jets that Latveria was supposedly using to strike Symkaria as Decepticon soldiers. The Autobots and Avengers pounded on the Decepticon fortress when the Decepticons emerged and attacked. Iron Man arrived to assist the Autobots[252] and the battle began to turn to the favor of the Autobot-Avenger alliance. However, Doctor Doom betrayed the group and joined with Megatron and demanded that the Autobots and Avengers stood down as they had captured Luke Cage, Spider-Man, Prowl, and Ratchet. Optimus Prime instead continued the attack. Megatron then emerged to face his enemies himself[253] though the Autobots and Avengers gained the upper hand and Prime ordered the Autobots to kill Megatron while he was down. The Decepticons managed to retreat from the battle.

The Autobots returned to the Ark-19 and noted that Ramjet had joined the Decepticons on Earth while Wheeljack pointed out that the Avengers' Quinjet seemed Cybertronian.[254]

Optimus Prime being wounded by Megatron in Brasnya, 2006 CE.

Optimus continued to lead the Autobot war effort from the Ark-19 and received reports from across the cosmos. He received reports from Bludgeon's decrypted files that revealed that both Shockwave and Soundwave were somewhere on Earth. Springer reported the current status of the Wreckers. Ultra Magnus reported on the arrest of Swindle, and Blades reported on the status of a Decepticon infiltration unit elsewhere in the galaxy. Prowl visited Prime and reported that the three human allies the Autobots had accumulated, Hunter O'Nion, Verity Carlo, and Jimmy Pink, were en route to their homes.[255]

Prime then received reports that both Sunstreaker and Hunter were shot down by a group of militarized humans during the trip. Prime led a Jazz and Wheeljack down Interstate I-57 near St. Louis to retrieve Sunstreaker's remains while going through the report from Ironhide, learning that Jimmy and Verity were not taking the death of their friend well. The group attacked the Springfield Police Department Impound lot which resulted in the death of other humans that were part of the mysterious organization that took down Sunstreaker, though the Autobots managed to retrieve Sunstreaker's body.

The body was brought to the Ark-19 where Ratchet conducted an autopsy and found that the remains were not of the real Sunstreaker, which concerned Optimus.[256] Optimus decided to call for reinforcements for the campaign and contacted Hot Rod, Hardhead, and Nightbeat to come to Earth on the Ark-32. When calling Nightbeat, Nightbeat acted strange.[257] Optimus later held a meeting on the Ark-19 about his decision for reinforcements which Prowl disapproved of. Ironhide offered to work on finding those responsible for the death of Sunstreaker but Prime denied his request as he wanted to focus on finding Decepticon activity in agitating Earth's geopolitical situation.

Prowl reported to Optimus and showed Prime a situation in the Russian-separatist state of Brasnya where the Brasnyans and Russians were coming close to confrontation. Prowl then showed Optimus a Brasnyan leader, Georgi Koska, firing a gun with charges identical to Megatron's weapons. Realizing that Koska was a facsimile and Megatron had again assumed a gun mode, Optimus Prime ordered Prowl to ready a strike team to stop Megatron.

The unit went to Brasnya via Orbital Bounce and the Autobots moved out to capture Koska.[258] Upon arrival, Optimus detected Blitzwing's presence and drove within his range but had his drone component, Roller, take down the Decepticon in order to get a response from Megatron. As the battle continued, Nightbeat reported that no signals were coming from the battlefield, suggesting that Megatron was about to transform. Just then, Megatron, powered by Ore-13, arrived to confront Prime.[259] Optimus and Megatron fought but Megatron gained the upper hand and neutralized Roller and almost completely crushed the Spark of Optimus Prime.[260] In order to survive, Optimus downloaded his consciousness into his trailer. As he was being downloaded, he felt himself being noticed by Nova Prime. Optimus messaged Prowl and ordered him to make sure that Megatron was occupied while Prime re-downloaded himself into his main body. Once he did so, Optimus began to beat back the weakened Megatron before the Decepticons finally retreated. Optimus then received a report from Nightbeat that the Georgi Koska facsimile was killed during an Orbital Bounce to the Ark-32.[261]

Optimus Prime engaging Sixshot in Pensacola, 2006 CE.

At the Ark-19, Optimus Prime received more reports as he tried to manage the war. Ultra Magnus had more leads on the Decepticon war criminal Scorponok, Springer had seen to the restoration of the recently-lost Kup, Hound reported his subordinate Sideswipe was upset that Sunstreaker was missing, and Prime also received an S.O.S. from the long-lost Autobot Wheelie. Prowl reported that Hot Rod had been repaird, Ironhide had disappeared on another mission that occurred during the Battle of Brasnya and that Ratchet was looking for him, Nightbeat was following Prime's orders in examining Verity Carlo's palm-computer, the humans had recovered from a gas attack that had occurred during Ironhide's failed mission, and that more work was being done to locate more facsimiles on Earth. Prime was more worried with the antagonistic presence of Nova Prime that he had felt in Brasnya. He left and took the Ark-32 to the Muta-Gaath Nebula where Omega Supreme was stationed.

Optimus asked Omega Supreme about the truth about Nova Prime and the Ark-1. Omega Supreme explained to Prime that Nova Prime was a tyrant who only wanted to expand a Cybertronian Empire. During this, Monstructor attacked the facility and Omega Supreme fought against him. Optimus helped Omega Supreme in the battle and the fighting parties landed on a meteor. Omega Suprme explained that Monstructor was the first Combiner created by Jhiaxus and that due to Monstructor's antagonist behavior, Omega had fought against him before and had locked him away in a dimensionally displaced prison which Prime disapproved of. The fighting continued and Optimus managed to hit Monstructor's weak point which caused Monstructor to separate into his separate bodies. Optimus wanted to help repair the Monstructor Six and had Jetfire and his ship arrive to escort the team to Garrus-9 to be helped. Omega Supreme disapproved of Prime's choice, but Optimus returned to Earth.[262]

Nightbeat reported that Bumblebee had found human-sized scouting equipment and that there was a tracking device in Carlo's palm-computer. Nightbeat theorized that the human organization that had been harassing the Autobots on Earth (identified only by the letter M found on a card discovered by Carlo and Pink) had been tracking down the Autobots with that technology. Nightbeat suggested moving the Ark-19 and Optimus Prime agreed. He sent Bumblebee to find the M organization's headquarters and ordered the ship to be prepped for launch.

In the meantime, Prime was contacted by Sideswipe and Hound who reported that the body of Thunderwing had been stolen and Sideswipe demanded to be sent to Earth. Prime decided to give orders for Hound's unit to come to Earth.

The Ark-19 launched from Lake Michigan with the intended destination of the Gulf of Mexico. However, while en-route, the ship fell under attack by the Decepticon Sixshot.[263] Optimus quickly ordered Ratchet to take the humans to an escape pod and for Nightbeat to send the Ark-19 data to the Ark-32 and for Prowl to ensure that nothing survived the crash. The Ark-19 crashed in the Gulf of Mexico[264] but Optimus Prime and his Autobots emerged outside Pensacola, Flordia where Ratchet was under attack by Sixshot.[265]

The Autobots engaged Sixshot but Prime received reports that the United States was about to launch a heavy air strike on the battlefield. Optimus ordered the Autobots to bounce back to the Ark-32. Prime stayed behind until the last minute in battle with Sixshot before too bouncing to the Ark-32.[266]

Optimus moved to Garrus-9 and ordered Ultra Magnus to meet with him as well. Arriving at Garrus-9, Optimus had Prowl run an investigation before returning to the Ark-32, leaving warden Fortress Maximus in charge at Garrus-9. Ultra Magnus reported that Thunderwing was found guarding a device called a Nega-Core on Corata-Vaz. Optimus gave Jetfire the task of finding out what exactly a Nega-Core was and ordered Prowl to call in the Wreckers to keep Thunderwing at bay.[267]

Prowl and Prime watched the Wreckers engage Thunderwing and later Jetfire reported information from Omega Supreme who explained that the Cybertronian who activated the Nega-Core in the first place was Cyclonus and that the Cybertronian who stole Thunderwing was Galvatron, both of which were crew members of the Ark-1. Beliving that the current crisis was linked to the Ark-1, Optimus decided that the Benzuli Expanse, the last known location of the Ark-1, needed to be investigated.

Jetfire later reported that the only way to infiltrate the Benzuli Expanse was with refined Pretender technology to protect the individual from the energies of the region. Optimus Prime hesitantly granted permission to allow Cloudburst, Landmine, Waverider, and Groundbreaker to undergo the process.

Searchlight later reported that Dealer had suggested to use the Magnificence to find the answers the Autobots needed as the Magnificence was a device that could answer any question.[268] Optimus had Dealer partner with Hot Rod to find the artifact.

While at Garrus-9, the prison fell under attack by Nova Prime who was going by the alias of Nemesis Prime. Optimus sensed Nemesis Prime and went to confront him. Optimus and Nemesis Prime fought in the halls of Garrus-9[269] and Nemesis's Darkness, the antithesis of the Matrix of Leadership, infected Optimus Prime. However, Galvatron arrived and betrayed his master by shooting down Nemesis Prime. Galvatron then gave Optimus a choice: To either give Galvatron the Darkness or to die. Optimus gave Galvatron the Darkness but then threw him into a nearby solar pool. As Optimus Prime eulogized over Nova Prime, Jetfire arrived late to assist Prime. The Autobot forces elsewhere in the galaxy managed to bring the Expansion Crisis to an end.[270]

Prime then received a distress signal from Hot Rod on Earth and Optimus took the Ark-32 to return to Earth where they picked up Hot Rod, the living Sunstreaker and Hunter O'Nion. They also picked up Verity Carlo and Jimmy Pink, reuiniting the humans. Ultra Magnus reported that he needed to bring the fugitives Scorponok, Shockwave, and Grimlock (who were all found on Earth) to Garrus-9. Optimus Prime agreed and believed that the Earth front would become pivotal to the war.[271] The humans were later returned home except for Verity who went with Ultra Magnus.

The Surge and Aftermath (2007 CE - 2009 CE)

Optimus Prime looses the Matrix to Megatron, Earth, 2007 CE.

By 2007 CE, Optimus Prime had assembled a much larger army of Autobots on Earth in secret and searched for Decepticon activity which they found none of.[272] However, Prime received reports of a power struggle between the Decepticons thanks to Starscream. Prime deployed his forces to crush the weakened remnants of Starscream's forces but the reports Prime received had been faulty as the entire Decepticon force on Earth under Megatron ambushed the Autobots in a gorge. Optimus Prime and Ironhide managed to rally the troops to gain equal footing with the Decepticons until the Decepticons unveiled Devastator, their first Combiner. The battle went poorly for the Autobots and Megatron ripped the Matrix of Leadership from Prime's chest. The Autobots were defeated and the Decepticons revealed that it was an Autobot who had betrayed them to the Decepticons. The Autobots were sent through a Space Bridge that the Decepticons had built and dropped them on to Cybertron (which had a clearer atmosphere). Optimus Prime sabotaged the bridge just before he fell in and the aftershock greatly damaged Optimus into Stasis.[273] The Autobots made camp on Cybertron which was infected by a swarm of Insecticons and used all of their Energon reserves to keep Prime alive.[274]

Optimus Prime was fully activated and repaired in 2008 CE, filling the Autobots with morale. Prime found himself in a war that seemed lost as the Decepticons had conducted a Surge throughout the galaxy.[275] The Autobots soon fell under attack by the swarm but Omega Supreme arrived and evacuated the Autobots from Cybertron.[276]

Optimus and his forces went to Earth to take out the Decepticons under Megatron's command. They arrived over New York City where a battle was taking place between the Decepticons and the European Union forces.[277] During the battle, Megatron took a shot from United States soldier Spike Witwicky using a gun reverse engineered from Shockwave's design and Optimus used the advantage to beat down Megatron into Stasis Lock. The European Union launched a nuclear missile at the city and Decepticons retreated under Starscream's command. Thundercracker removed the missile, saving the city. Optimus then met with Spike and offered to help rebuild Earth but Spike informed him that there was never a chance for partnership between Cybertronians and humans ever again.[278]

Optimus decided to lead his forces in a retreat and they made camp in caves outside of New York City, away from humanity though he pursued a policy of having the Autobots help humanity in disguise. While at the caves, Ironhide and Prime conversed and Prime eventually convinced Ironhide to stay on active duty.[279]

Optimus had Bumblebee scout the progress of humanity but Bumblebee eventually sent out distress signals as he was under attack by the human government organization Skywatch. Optimus Prime and a group of Autobots deployed and warded away the Skywatch forces.[280]

As time went on, Hot Rod began to openly criticize Prime for staying on Earth for so long as there wasn't any tactical purpose of their stay. However, knowing that Prime was located there, more and more Autobot refugees from around the galaxy came to Earth. From them, Optimus Prime learned more about the state of the war in the aftermath of the Surge. Prime became more inspired by the Americans he saw in reconstructing New York City and was inspired to work on reforming the Autobots from a military organization to a democratic one. Prowl criticized this move as the chain of command was breaking down. Prowl also reported that New York City was approaching completion and Optimus decided to move base further to the west. Prowl again supported leaving Earth as he reported that the humans were executing any Transformer they discovered.[281]

Leader No More (2010 CE - 2011 CE)

Optimus Prime surrenders to Skywatch forces in America, 2010 CE.

The Autobots remained in hiding through 2009 CE and into 2010 CE by which time Skywatch had developed inhibitors to hunt Transformers with. Optimus had Wheeljack develop a way to counteract the inhibitors shortly after he received reports that Prowl had been captured by Skywatch. Prime had all the Autobots report to Wheeljack's bad to have the counteracting devices installed that night. Hot Rod again criticized Prime for his pointless defensive war of attrition on Earth and pressured Prime into letting Hot Rod lead a mission to save Prowl. Optimus had Ironhide join the group so that he could keep an eye on Hot Rod.

When the mission returned, Prowl had been saved but Ironhide had been killed by the Skywatch forces. Optimus mourned the loss of his friend and that night announced that he no longer felt fit to lead and abdicated his leadership, leaving it to the Autobots to find his successor. Optimus Prime went to the Skywatch headquarters and surrendered to them.[282]

Prime was held by Skywatch for seven hours until the leader of the unit, Spike Witwicky (the hero of New York City) finally arrived and interrogated Optimus.[283] The interrogation did not go well as Optimus was evasive and self-deprecating with his responses.

Spike later returned with the captured Autobots Hoist, Tracks, and Beachcomber to try to persuade Prime to talk[284] but Optimus still did not provide any useful information for a week[285] Later, Spike spoke with Optimus again and Optimus explained that he felt that the Autobots would operate better without his leadership[286]

Spike later returned and reported that there was an ongoing battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons in the desert and Spike allowed Optimus to face the Decepticons. Prime was airdropped into the battlefield and re-moralized the Autobots. Together, they defeated Swindle's Decepticons and their Combiner Menasor. However, Optimus disappointed his Autobots after the battle as he returned to Skywatch custody.[287]

However, Skywatch and the Autobots under the command of Bumblebee made an alliance which allowed Prime to occasionally work with his forces once more.

A battle of zombies and the forces of the reactivated Galvatron broke out in Las Vegas and Optimus Prime was deployed alongside Skywatch and Autobot forces under Bumblebee to engage the invaders. They initially attacked Galvatron's forces but during the battle Galvatron demanded that Optimus Prime surrendered the Autobot forces to the command of Galvatron. Eventually, the Autobots captured Galvatron's forces and only then took notice of the infestation around them. A force-field was established around the city and Optimus and Prowl interrogated Galvatron. Galvatron explained that he came across a frozen mass with zombies and infected robots in space. They thawed out the zombies within their ship which caused a battle across the ship. The ship crashed on Earth during the fight and the fight spread out into Las Vegas.

Kup arrived during the interrogation and explained that Bayonet, a soldier under the command of Galvatron, never existed. Bayonet then revealed herself to be a human named Britt from the Megaverse, specifically the CVO Universe. She speared Kup and declared her intent to give the world to the Undermine, a dark god from the Megaverse.[288] Britt began to take down Kup, Galvatron, Prime, and Prowl and revealed to them her origin, being a vampire from the CVO universe who was bitten by a zombie. She was then possessed by the Undermine and now served him in an effort to infect the Omniverse on his behalf.

Kup managed to fight back against Britt, allowing the four Cybertronians to be set free. As the group was overcrowded by zombies, Galvatron used the Heart of Darkness, an altered form of the Darkness, to wipe the zombies out and the group pulled back. However, Britt still managed to infect Kup.

After regrouping, the allied forces under the command of Galvatron, Optimus, and Bumblebee all attacked Britt's forces as she was using Kup's Cybertronian technology to develop a Space Bridge. Prowl accessed Kup's mind and had him take out the space bridge, sacrificing himself with it. With the infestation crisis over, Galvatron still demanded Optimus join forces with him. Prime refused, and an irritated Galvatron warped away via Orbital Bounce.[289]

Optimus Prime engaging Megatron on Earth, 2010 CE.

As part of the new alliance with Skywatch, the Autobots were given a new headquarters out of the caves and in an actual facility. General Daniel Witwiky, the commander of Skywatch and father of Spike Witwicky, visited the headquarters and met Optimus Prime.[290] At the headquarters, Optimus Prime preferred to be alone and separate from Bumblebee's Autobots.

Spike Witwicky checked on Prime and reported that the Combaticons were supporting North Korea in an invasion of South Korea. The Autobots and Skywatch prepared to intervene when the President of the United States announced that a Cybertronians were considered weapons of mass destruction. The plan was changed to do the operation covertly.[291]

The Autobots were smuggled into Korea by Skywatch and had their vehicle modes altered with weapons so satellite imagery wouldn't pick up on transforming. The Autobots engaged the Combaticons but were defeated. While being repaired, Prime called Bumblebee who reported that he planned on getting the former Decepticon Thundercracker's help in the operation.[292]

With Thundercracker's assistance, the Autobots engaged the Combaticons in robot mode as the satellites were being hacked. As the fighting got closer to the border with China, the Predacons arrived and warned the combatants to stay away.[293] The Combaticons fired on the Predacons, resulting in a three-way battle. The footage of the fight was leaked by an inside Skywatch agent and Russia fired a nuclear missile at the battlefield though Cosmos managed to remove the threat. Thundercracker destroyed the Energon production plants in North Korea and the battle came to an end.[294]

The team later received reports that Bumblebee had been shot by a human with a gun based on Megatron's original Earth design and the unit began a hasty aerial return to the United States. However, the aircraft was shot down by the returned Megatron and the unit fell into the Pacific Ocean.[295] They managed to emerge on the west coast of the United States[296] and deployed to the Skywatch base in Albuquerque. They received a message from Megatron who had captured Ultra Magnus and demanded to see Optimus Prime. The unit decided to meet Megatron outside of Albuquerque.

Optimus Prime met Megatron face-to-face, ordering the other Autobot and Skywatch forces to stay back. He found Megatron and Soundwave who were holding Ultra Magnus hostage. Megatron revealed that he dropped the captured Autobots in the city and armed the humans with guns based on his design to prove to Optimus that humans weren't good and were going to kill Cybertronians. Prime quickly ordered Spike and Campolongo to diffuse the situation and Prowl sent Jazz along with them. Optimus wanted Megatron to leave as Megatron was sending signals that were enraging the humans who wielded guns from his design. Optimus shot Soundwave through the head, forcing Megatron to pull back to get medical attention for Soundwave.[297] However, Jazz had accidentally killed a human in the operation in Albuquerque and the Autobots returned to Omega Supreme, the last base they had.

Optimus interrogated the captured Thundercracker for the Decepticon camp's location so he could fight Megatron once more but Thundercracker knew nothing. Optimus then went and visited the wounded Ultra Magnus who revealed that he planted a homing device on Soundwave. Prime checked with Spike for weapons for this encounter and was equipped with a targeting rifle for a Kinetic Harpoon. Prime then got Jetfire from sick bay to fly him to the battle. Jazz offered to help but Prime told him he was off of active duty until Bumblebee recovered and decided to put him back on active duty. As Prime departed, Prowl expressed his disdain for Prime's lack of a plan.

Jetfire dropped Optimus Prime into the Decepticon camp and he fought Megatron outside. However, even after the Kinetic Harpoon, Optimus could not best Megatron. Megatron took down Optimus Prime but went to Omega Supreme where Megatron dropped Optimus Prime off and surrendered to the Autobots. Megatron was captured and Optimus was repaired.

Optimus interrogated Megatron, informing Megatron that Omega Supreme would transform if he tried to escape. Megatron revealed that he surrendered so he would have a front-row seat to the dissolution of trust between the humans and the Autobots as he informed Prime that Spike killed Scrapper, a Cybertronian. Prime ordered Prowl to investigate the matter. Prime then watched the news as the humans rioted against the Cybertronian presence on Earth. Trust was breaking between the Autobots over Jazz's crime, Autobots were wounded, and the alliance with Skywatch was uneasy. Prime went to his quarters and thought alone.[298]

Optimus Prime recognizes Hot Rod as Rodimus inside Omega Supreme on Earth, 2011 CE.

In 2011 CE, Hot Rod (going by the name Rodimus) returned to Earth, now holding the Matrix of Leadership that had reformatted him. He also had returned with an alien named Garnak, the long-lost Wheelie, and a rebuilt Ironhide. Rodimus returned the Matrix to Optimus Prime and Optimus recognized Hot Rod as Rodimus, formalizing his name. Rodimus explained how he took back the Matrix of Leadership from Starscream and had found that Cybertron had a clean atmosphere and that an army under Galvatron was taking over the empty planet.

Optimus addressed the Autobots and expressed that he would not sit idly by while Galvatron conquered Cybertron. Optimus assembled a large army of Autobots to go on Omega Supreme to Cybertron. Bumblebee was upset at his move as Optimus had ignored the chain of command.

Before they left, Prowl informed Prime that he needed a moment alone to interrogate Megatron as Prowl was to stay on Earth to continue his investigation. Optimus allowed this. As Bumblebee confronted Prime, Prowl emerged and reported that he had concluded his investigation. Optimus then informed Bumblebee of Spike's betrayal. Bumblebee had Optimus tell Ultra Magnus that Magnus was needed to stay on Earth. As Omega Supreme was being boarded, Spike asked Prime if he could come along. Optimus refused this offer, and Omega launched into space.[299][300]

While en-route to Cybertron, Omega Supreme picked up Xaaron who was an expert in legal matters as the Autobots needed to deal with the fate of Megatron. Prime, Xaaron, and Ironhide watched Perceptor and Ratchet checked out Megatron for weapons. Perceptor gave them the thumbs up to represent that it was safe. Ironhide and Prime spoke about Prime's confusion as to why Megatron surrendered. Ironhide told him that he needed to talk to Megatron properly.

Finally, Optimus met with Megatron and had the windows shut so the watching Autobots couldn't watch in. However, the audio was not muted. Megatron began to suggest that Optimus loved war, to Prime's horror. However, they finally started talking about their old times together.

After their conversation, Optimus held a meeting with Autobot High Command over the fate of Megatron. The group argued about what to do, but Optimus said that it was up to him and no one else. Rodimus questioned if Optimus was the best choice as Prime and Megatron sounded friendly during their meeting. Optimus was enraged that the Autobots listened in and ordered everyone to get out.

Optimus met with Megatron yet again and Megatron goaded Prime into shocking him. Optimus felt sick with himself after what he did and scolded Omega for not de-powering the harness. Omega informed Prime that he was weakening it and that Prime would have killed Megatron. Ironhide asked Prime if he knew what Megatron wanted and Optimus responded that the just gave it to him.[301]

Optimus wanted to speak to Megatron again as himself and without the Matrix. He met with Ratchet and gave him the Matrix of Leadership to hold on to while he spoke to him. He then met with Rodimus and asked him about how it felt when he was reformatted with the Matrix. Rodimus said it felt amazing in contrast to the pain Optimus felt.

Optimus visited Megatron and asked him what he felt his punishment should be. Megatron replied that he wanted the death penalty. Optimus left and Ratchet returned the Matrix.[302]

As Omega Supreme approached Cybertron, Megatron called Prime and asked who had conquered Cybertron. Optimus ignored him.

Optimus spoke with Ironhide before meeting with Jetfire who still had no communications with Chief Justice Tyrest since the Surge. Garnak called them to meet with Rodimus, who showed them that Galvatron was sending a message from Cybertron in binary by having his army activate and deactivate their weapons.

Optimus Prime purifies Vector Sigma, 2011 CE

Prime led a landing party on Cybertron to meet Galvatron. Soon, a fight broke out. Galvatron retreated, and Prime consulted with his forces. Suddenly, the research station Kimia began to fire on Cybertron as it had been taken by Galvatron's forces and transformed it into its laser mode.[303] Optimus ordered Silverbolt to lead the aerial-capable Autobots in an offensive against the station. Optimus divided his forces to establish a camp in the city and to unload Omega Supreme. Under Rodimus's advice, Prime let Rodimus take Omega Supreme up into space as a mobile command center.

Prime led a group of Autobots to engage Galvatron's Sweeps. Prime then got into an argument on the communications line with Silverbolt and Rodimus over destroying Kimia or leaving it be as there may have been Autobots on the station. However, the station itself exploded from the inside. Optimus then noted that Galvatron left the battlefield, and he and Ironhide followed Galvatron.[304] Prime later rendezvoused with Drift and Rodimus and went to the crater made by Kimia. As Prime felt the Matrix calling down there, Optimus and the unit moved in. They intercepted Galvatron and Jhiaxus and Galvatron used the Heart of Darkness to cause Drift to turn against the team while Galvatron and Jhiaxus continued their movement. Drift ran himself through with his sword to stop himself and Cliffjumper called Prime. However, Megatron took the communicator and explained that he was fighting a massive enemy on the surface. Optimus told Megatron to protect Cybertron for as long as he could.[305] Optimus had Ironhide move Drift to the surface for medical attention and Optimus and Rodimus continued their trek.

The two found that Galvatron had already opened the Heart of Darkness into the Vector Sigma before he arrived. Suddenly, an Autobot shuttle crashed on top of Galvatron carrying Hardhead and Arcee. As reality began to be torn apart as the Dead Universe began to come through the Vector Sigma, Rodimus urged Prime to use the Matrix to stop the threat. Prime was not confident and then he got taken down by Galvatron. However, Cyclonus stopped Galvatron from hurting Prime. Prime took the chance to run into the Vector Sigma with the Matrix of Leadership. In a flash of light, Optimus Prime emerged on the barren surface of Cybertron, alone, with a broken and empty Matrix of Leadership.[306]

Optimus Prime was disoriented as he could not tell if this was Cybertron in the past or not as the planet had been reset. Optimus wandered the planet's surface. He eventually came to the location of where the Grand Imperium once stood. He eventually found a crowded village over the former site of Iacon. Entering the city, he was harassed by the neutral Cybertronian Tappet but Sideswipe and Whirl arrived to help Optimus, telling him that the city was populated by Non-Affiliated Indigenous Lifeforms, or N.A.I.L.s.

Optimus went to Autobot High Command where the Autobots were coordinating the mass arrival of ships. Rodimus explained that after Prime disappeared, Cybertron reset its environment becoming primordial and that the Vector Sigma sent a signal to all Cybertronians among the stars that had fled during the Exodus, stating that the Second Cybertronian Civil War was over and that it was time to come home. Bumblebee informed Prime that the neutrals that had arrived were upset at Autobot High Command who they blamed for destroying the planet. Prime then met with Metalhawk who represented the N.A.I.L.s. Optimus revealed the the Matrix had been split in two to High Command.

Optimus was brought to Kimia where the Decepticons were being held in the barrel of its cannon. They were equipped with Inhibitor/Deterrence Chips to prevent them from misbehaving.

Perceptor, who had been studying the pieces of the Matrix and found a message. Rewind explained that the message referenced the Guiding Hand. Perceptor then revealed that the Matrix contained a map of the universe.

Later, a large-scale protest formed outside Kimia. Optimus observed the rioting while High Command argued about whether or not they should follow the map to find the Knights of Cybertron, though Prime ignored High Command and focused on the rioting. One of the rioters threw a grenade into the room, and Prowl called in the Decepticons who began to beat down the rioters. Metalhawk tried to calm down the situation but was shot down and Prime ordered Metalhawk brought inside. Optimus stayed by Metalhawk's side while he was being repaired when he heard Prowl explaining that he once tried to flee Cybertron in the early stages of the war. Optimus went to the balcony and spoke with the people in the crowd and announced that he realized that he symbolized the war that everyone had come to hate and that in order to try to create peace on Cybertron, he would leave forever.

Later, Optimus Prime went to the arguing Rodimus and Bumblebee and gave each of them a half of the Matrix of Leadership and left. Optimus Prime boarded the Skyroller and left Cybertron and decided that Optimus Prime was dead. He was now Orion Pax yet again.[307]

Orion Pax Again (2012 CE - 2013 CE)

Orion Pax kept a journal on his voyage through space. In 2012 CE, Pax received a call from Hardhead on the Ark-27 who was with Wheelie and Garnak guarding the captured Jhiaxus. They informed Pax that Jhiaxus was calling out "Pax" after receiving a signal from Arduria. Orion met with the group and met Jhiaxus who calmed down upon seeing Orion. Orion set a course for Arduria.

Setting out from Arduria, Hardhead reported to Pax that Rodimus had a crew on the Lost Light that was to leave Cybertron in search of the Knights of Cybertron but the ship blew up. Orion still believed that Rodimus was alive. The two found a frozen Monstructor and Orion, knowing that the last time Monstructor was active was under the service of a restored Bludgeon, realized that Bludgeon was coming. However, Bludgeon had already stormed the Ark-27. The Monstructor Six fled with Bludgeon and Jhiaxus on their own ship and Orion and Garnak checked on the wounded Wheelie and Garnak.

After healing the two, Hardhead theorized that the enemies were going to the Leocinium Velnero System where Wheelie had been stranded for all those years. Orion ordered a course heading to the system.[308]They eventually came upon a Decepticon ship, though it wasn't Jhiaxus's. They still followed the ship to LV-117. At this point, time began to stop flowing linearly due to the Ore-1 deposits on the planet as suddenly the crew were investigating the body of Spyglass. They returned to their original moment and landed on LV-117. They found the damaged Decepticon ship there and investigated it, finding the dead body of Spyglass and evidence that the ship had been laying there for fifty years. As Orion continued to look around, suddenly he was holding a control device, thanking Hardhead for waiting for him a month later. He then returned back to the original time. Pax found the time machine engine of the ship and suddenly had flashes to Jhiaxus escaping and then Bludegon explaining that the device was activated. He flashed back to the present before flashing forward again as LV-117 crumbled around him and again to the Monstructor Six moving away from him. He flashed back to the present before flashing forward where he found Monstructor killing a Chaosteros and an Arachnosaur with Jhiaxus escaping in a ship. Monstructor then retreated with Jhiaxus and Bludgeon arrived to meet Pax. Bludegon and Pax fought for a bit until Bludgeon stated that he realized that they were going in two different directions in time.

Pax flashed back on to the planet where Turmoil and his Decepticon forces were repairing the Decepticon ship with slave labor. Turmoil explained that he was there because he was sent by Shockwave to gather intelligence on Ore-1. Bludgeon attacked Pax briefly before running away and Turmoil threatened an alien named Varta to stop Pax from pursuing Bludgeon. This enraged Pax (who quickly flashed forward to reality being destroy then flashed back to the past) and he beat down Turmoil. Varta explained that time did not flow normally (during the conversation, Pax flashed back to Varta being threatened) and then Pax flashed to the Decepticon ship arriving to the planet. Bludgeon arrived and fought Pax for a bit. Suddenly, they flashed forward to LV-117 being destroyed and the Wheelie and Varta of that time approached him but Bludgeon killed Varta. Pax then saw Jhiaxus screaming "Prime" and "Pax" from a Quintesson ship. Orion asked why he was yelling his name but Jhiaxus corrected him as he was referring to Gorlam Prime and Pax Cybertronia. Wheelie summoned a Chaosteros and Arachnosaur to fight Monstructor who Jhiaxus sent out. Orion managed to get the control device for the time machine and Pax sword to not let Jhiaxus get away with his plan of Pax Cybertronia.

Orion Pax finally came out of the chaos of time a month later and Hardhead arrived and the crew left on the Ark-27 to stop Jhiaxus.[309] Pax and the Ark-27 went to Gorlam Prime and arrived in 2013 CE where Pax was concerned by Hardhead who suddenly faced a jolt of pain and began dying before he recovered soon after. Hardhead led them down into the underground caves of the planet. While exploring, Garnak reported that the Ark-27 had fallen under attack. The group engaged the Monstructor Six who appeared to be harassing the Decepticon Waspinator. During the fight, Monstructor crushed the Ark-27. Waspinator informed Pax that there was a Titan underneath the ground and tricked Pax into summoning it. This caused the Ore-2 on the planet to disintegrate the planet and Waspinator, working for Jhiaxus, piloted the Titan away to Cybertron and Jhiaxus goaded to Pax before leaving. Orion decided to take his group on the Skyroller to return to Cybertron to stop Jhiaxus's attack.[310]Pax tried to escape the exploding planet and sent out a signal to warn all Autobots to stay away from the planet. However, the Skyroller was picked up by the Lost Light captained by Rodimus who was indeed alive. They boarded the Lost Light and reunited with the Autobots on the ship and Swerve showed Pax his ringtone he made from Pax's distress signal.

Pax was brought through a tour of the ship when Starscream, who had assumed leadership on Cybertron, called the ship and had Cyclonus investigate Dead Universe readings over Iacon.[311] Orion visited the workshop of the scientist Brainstorm who was a Dead Universe researcher as Orion wanted to infiltrate the Dead Universe as he considered it a threat to Cybertron. Brainstorm agreed to develop a way to get into the Dead Universe safely.

Orion shared a drink with Rodimus and Ultra Magnus at Swerve's. They discussed the current events and Pax explained that he was unhappy with Starscream's election and that he wanted to try a new approach with Megatron who he heard was active again on Cybertron.

They later reported to Brainstorm's workshop where Brainstorm fitted Pax, Rodimus, Cyclonus, and Hardhead with a Cyberwraith, a parasite native to the Dead Universe that would trick the Dead Universe into thinking that they belonged there. The group then went into the Dead Universe through the portal where Gorlam Prime once was.

In the Dead Universe, they discovered that the universe was being destroyed and contracting. They came under attack by Cyberwraiths but managed to destroy them and the group noted that Cyclonus appeared to be sick.[312] They continued their trek through the Dead Universe and Rodimus explained that during his quest, they saved all who were constructed cold (explaining Hardhead's sudden attack at Gorlam Prime). As they continued, they saw that Cyclonus was leaking. The dead Nightbeat, who was alive as he was in the Dead Universe, arrived[313] and explained that Cyclonus had been exposed to the Dead Universe as he had broken his seal with the Cyberwraith. Nightbeat ordered the group to follow him to the portal that was threatening Cybertron. However, Nightbeat had the group locked up in a containment cube as he was a sleeper agent for Nova Prime.[314] Pax managed to make a crack in the box and had Hardhead break through the glass when the time arose. Just then, the living Nova Prime arrived. Nova Prime tried to convince Orion to join his side, but Cyclonus had Hardhead break through the box. The hole sealed up before anyone else could get free and Nova Prime destroyed Hardhead before Pax's eyes.[315]

Nova Prime brought Cyclonus, Rodimus, and Orion Pax to his headquarters where Nova Prime showed that he was using Kup as the Space Bridge to attack Primax 1005.19 Gamma. Nova then had Nightbeat and a group of Sweeps escort the group to a prison cell. Nightbeat explained that Nova was going to use everyone's Sparks to power Kup to make the Space Bridge powerful enough to invade Primax 1005.19 Gamma. Rodimus managed to break Nova's mind control over Nightbeat with some numbers written on his hand which confused Orion.[316] The group fought their way through the base and began to free Kup and Rodimus explained that the numbers meant that most of the crew wanted Rodimus to resign. Orion criticized Rodimus for not resigning. They managed to free Kup but Nova Prime arrived[317] and fought Orion Pax, using the forms of himself, Sentinel Prime, Zeta Prime, and even as Orion. Orion was demoralized in the fight, ashamed of the legacy of the Primes but Rodimus gave him hope again. Orion slayed Nova Prime and took back his old name of Optimus Prime once more.[318]

The Return of Optimus Prime (2013 CE - 2015 CE)

The Dead Universe began to rapidly shrink and the portal to Primax 1005.19 Gamma was lost. Prime tried to contact Wheelie but Wheelie confirmed that he couldn't open the portal to extract them. However, they heard singing coming from a portal that existed within Brainstorm on the Lost Light at Swerve's.[319] Prime, Rodimus, Kup, Cyclonus, and Nightbeat managed to emerge from Brainstorm's chest since Brainstorm had been infected by the Dead Universe. The group emerged in the middle of a battle in the ruins of Crystal City of Primax 1005.19 Gamma between the Cybertronians and Shockwave's forces.[320]

Optimus Prime learned from Ultra Magnus that Shockwave was going to destroy the universe and that Megatron had gone to stop him. Prime and Magnus went and helped Megatron in his fight against Shockwave. Prime explained that Shockwave could always change back to his pre-Shadowplay self and Megatron helped Prime's message that people could change by announcing that from that day forth he would be an Autobot. Shockwave finally came to his senses but informed the two that the Time Drive that he was using was unstoppable and he needed to be killed to end the crisis. Optimus and Megatron fired a shot that killed Shockwave, ended the crisis, and created a singularity that would result in the Dead Universe being made in the ancient past.

The Lost Light rescued Magnus, Megatron, and Prime from the singularity. As clean up began and Metroplex assumed the role of the city over Iacon's ruins, Megatron and Optimus Prime met privately on the Lost Light and Megatron explained that he truly believed that he had turned a new leaf following the death of Bumblebee in the battle. Optimus and Megatron disembarked from the Lost Light to face what would happen next.[321]

Prime met with Ratchet, Prowl, Ultra Magnus, Starscream, and Rodimus in Metroplex to discuss the trial of Megatron and Optimus ordered that no one could leave Cybertron until the fate of Megatron was decided. Optimus supported a public trial of Megatron which he would sit in as the Chief Justice in the absence of Tyrest. He appointed Prowl as the Principal Prosecutor and made Ultra Magnus the Orator for the Defense. The meeting dismissed and Prime spoke with Rodimus. Rodimus explained that on his quest, he stopped Tyrest, saved the Circle of Light, and broke his half of the Matrix. The breaking of the Matrix astonished Prime. Rodimus explained that he was trying to find Thunderclash to use his map to Cyberutopia.

Optimus hoped to speed up the trial by having Chromedome use his mnemosurgery to take the memories from Megatron to speed up the process. However, Megatron panicked when Chromedome came in and refused to have anyone in his head. Optimus was later notified that Megatron wanted the trial to be held at Raskol Arena on Luna 2 as it was the only place that could fit the most people he had wronged.

The trial began and Megatron initially pleaded guilty.[322] During the third day, Starscream gave his testimony against Megatron, explaining that he pitted him. Megatron wished to speak to Magnus so Prime suspended the court for 30 minutes. During this recess. Slamdance showed Prime that the public opinion of the Autobots was rising due to the trial.

Prime reconvened the court and Ultra Magnus reported that Megatron changed his plea to not guilty.[323] Suddenly, a group of Decepticons launched an attack on the arena and Optimus joined in fighting them back. After the Decepticons were defeated, Prime ordered a recess. He met with Magnus, Prowl, Starscream, and Starscream's aide Rattrap and Ultra Magnus explained that Megatron was using a loophole in Luna 2's court system that he had the right to be judged by the Knights of Cybertron.

Upon Rattrap's suggestion, Optimus Prime met with Megatron and Megatron explained that his hatred for Starscream led him to invoke the loophole and that he wished to be put on the Lost Light to find Cyberutopia and that the Knights of Cybertron would bring a Golden Age that would cancel out Megatron's crimes of the Second Cybertronian Civil War. Optimus agreed with the condition that Megatron would deliver a speech of defeat to the public, ordering the Decepticons to step down from hostilities.

After the speech, Prime freed Megatron and gave him the title of Co-Captain.[324] Optimus watched as Megatron had his fusion cannon melted.[325]

Windblade gave Prime a hologram that Alpha Trion had given her, explaining that Prime needed to find him on Earth.

While seeing Megatron off, Optimus approached Prowl and Starscream who were arguing. Optimus informed Starscream that though he may rule over Iacon, Iacon was an Autobot as Metroplex had returned to his place. Prime then ordered Prowl and Cosmos to report to the Ark-7 to scan new alt-modes. Prime then warned Windblade to be wary of Starscream.[326]

New World Order (2016 CE)

At Autobot City, Optimus Prime was surprised that Mount Olympus was destroyed due to the Ore-13 deposits there. He wondered if that fate would be shared with Autobot City given the amounts of Ore-13 under it. Prime also predicted that the explosion would strain Earth-Cybertron relations. Prime contacted Kup and ordered him to investigate the situation at Mount Olympus.

Autobot humanitarian efforts in Portland fell under attack by the Joint Services Special Counterterrorist Group, also known as G.I. Joe. Optimus Prime led a group of Cybertronians to Portland to calm the situation but G.I. Joe continued to launch attacks. Suddenly, Rom arrived and neutralized several supposed G.I. Joe members and quickly left. Optimus ordered his forces to pursue Rom and retreated from Portland.[327]

Prime's forces fought with Rom at the Umpqua National Forest in Oregon before finally managing to pin him down.[328]
